A/N: The idea for this came to me after watching Millennium Actress, which is a REALLY GOOD anime film. I don't know if the two are connected... most likely. It's from Ryou's POV. Enjoy it.

Don't leave me alone!

"Hold him! Hold him! Somebody gimme a trank, quick – he's going into shock!"

Don't leave me alone!

"Steady, stready... that's it... just a few more drops..."

Don't! Leave! Me! Alone!

"Hold him! For God's sake – he'll fall – !"

Thump!

"Don't – don't leave me – don't leave me!"

"He's gone mad! Try and cut him off – Goki, go that way, San – down that hall!"

Pant, pant. Legs not used to running. Heart not used to pounding. Signs mean nothing, eyes are blind...

"Don't leave me alone!"

"What's he shouting?"

"You're not alone! Just – SLOW! DOWN!"

"Grab him, quick!" "He's too fast!" "Shit, we lost him!" "Look, there he goes – down the fire escape!"

"He'll never make it far in just a hospital gown."

"Lucky for him it isn't the rear-access kind... he's headed downtown."

"Call for backup, meet me by the car!" "You don't mean to go after him?!"

Voices lost in cacophony. Ears no longer want to listen. I'm running. I'm coming. Don't leave. Don't leave!

Airplane streaks across cloudless skies, scares me. Not half as much as your leaving does, though. I'm speeding up.

Almost... there...

"Look, Mommy!" "Come away, child!"

I'm a terror in their eyes; silver hair streaming, chocolate eyes bloodshot... I look more like you than anything. Not even myself. The air is cold, so cold... I'm so alone without you, why won't you listen?! Wait!

Don't leave me alone!

"There he is!" "Quick, grab him!"

Alley!

"Damnit, he's too fast!"

"He's out of his mind, Hiei. He runs like a madman; we'll never catch him now."

"Don't lose hope, San. At least we know where he's headed."

Faint voices. Faint, like dreams. Don't lose... what? Don't lose ME! Don't leave ME!

Bare feet bloody, pounding on pavement. I'll think about the pain later, right now I just need you to hold me... I want to feel your arms around me, and know that everything will be all right... I want to hear your low voice murmuring in my ear...

Flash! Turn right. Station! Missed the gate, gotta double back. I'm winded, I can't go on much further.

Pressure! Pain! Falling – carpet – eyes closed – breath gone – so close...

"Got him!" "Nice tackle, Hiei!"

"Sorry about the disturbance, folks – this one was slippery."

Spinning – falling – where?

Won't you catch me?

"Bakura..." Did I say your name? Or am I just repeating it like a mantra in my head... over and over and over...

"Doesn't he know Bakura's already dead?"

Fading – black – don't – leave!

"DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Sharp – pain – bliss – black....

Doctor Miyazaki Hiei stepped back from the prone youth, still holding a dripping needle. This he handed off to his assistant, Yashuyoshi San, who placed it with trembling hands into a plastic carrier.

Two aides came with a stretcher, and piled the young man on to it, while policemen kept the crowd in the train station back with tape and megaphones.

San wiped away tears that had formed at the silver-haired boy's last scream. "Will he ever recover?"

Hiei shook his head. "It's hard to tell... some days, he wakes up perfectly normal, so polite... and then there are days like this. Bakura was his lover, but Bakura's been dead for at least two years..."

He sighed, and slipped a comforting arm around San's shoulders. "Some phobias manifest themselves so deeply, that their victims never even realize they're there."

Don't leave me alone!

...alone... alone... alone...
