Cho sat among her friends, listening to their inane chatter but not really joining in. Today was another one of the dance classes orchestrated by Professor McGonagall to help the students not embarrass themselves the night of the Yule Ball. Cho shrank further in her seat at the thought. It wasn't enough that she had to dance in front of everyone, but as one of the dates of the champions, all eyes would be on her as she performed in the opening dance of the Ball.

"Now that we're all settled in, it's time for you to practice. Please partner up," Professor McGonagall said as she walked over to the large victrola in the corner of the room.

Cho rose with her friends, all of them running about her like headless chickens for a partner. Cedric wasn't in this dance class so she looked about for a partner for herself. She turned to the right, only to see Marietta already with Gregory Johns, a Hufflepuff in her year. She turned to left, seeing all the couples already partnered up as well.

"Dancewithme?" someone asked right in front of her. Harry looked at her hopefully, his face slightly red and his nervousness evident by the subtle scratch of the back of his neck.

She couldn't help the giggle that erupted from her throat. Still the shy one this boy, but he had a certain charm that drew her to him. She nodded, slipping her hand daintily into his as he placed his other cautiously on her waist.

Professor McGonagall's eyes scanned the room, ensuring everyone was partnered before she placed the needle on the record.

"One, two, three. One, two, three," the woman counted off as all the students moved in time with the music.

Harry wasn't clumsy, but he certainly wasn't graceful. His movements were less than fluid, sometimes out of time with the music and Professor McGonagall's count, but Cho smiled at him encouragingly as they moved across the floor with the others.

"Come, Harry, don't watch your feet," she said as he almost tripped. He nodded and complied, before turning his face upwards. She looked into his eyes, green like emeralds, and felt herself falling slowly, wondering what it would be like to have gone to the dance with him, to be dancing with him on the night of the ball, their faces so close she could almost kiss- No, she shook her head. Cedric.

She focused on the task at hand, dancing with a very dear friend, and offering instruction when she could. Slowly, the young man got better, even sharing a laugh as they watched Gregory accidentally trip over Marietta's feet. Cho watched him. She liked this calm and cool Harry, who wasn't so nervous just standing next to her. She loved the way his eyes lit up when he laughed and the timbre of his voice.

Too soon the song ended and Harry let go of her hands, his fingers lingering between her own. "Thank you for the dance," he said, "Save one for me at the Ball?"

"Harry, I-" Cho began but her friends had already gathered around her and pulled her away. She watched his crest-fallen expression before he returned to his own friends across the room.
