...
She was to afraid to admit it at first, even the thought scared her. Her best friend was in love with her. Yet she was too absorbed in her other relationships, Tyler and Klaus, even Elena to notice.
And now Caroline hates herself for barely noticing. She hates herself for letting him move on. She hates herself for not fighting harder. (if you could even call it fighting). She hates that she didn't look for him while Bonnie and Damon were in the prison world.
She hates him for being in love with Emma Petrova. Katherine's twin. She hates that they're married. But she can't blame Emma, If she had the oppurtunity she'd snatch Stefan up and never let him go. She hates that Stefan never told her about Emma and how she turned him (how they fell in love).
She remembers the day she found out they were more than friends. (She's not clueless, she's seen the looks shared between the two). Besides, Emma returned just to help Stefan regain his humanity. It's pretty clear that they're in love with each other
...
She and Elena were supposed to tell the others what their job was for the wedding. She finds them like that. A lamp knocked over. Clothes everywhere.
the way her legs are wrapped around Stefan, the way his hand touched her face, they way his emrald eyes met her chrome ones, and his hand is in hers, like it's been there all along, and there's something about them that neither Elena or Caroline can describe
he's still so in love with her, and she wonders where it all went wrong, why she let him go when she practically had him in the palm of her hand. Why she hadn't figured out her true feelings sooner.
Neither she or Elena can keep their eyes off the pair. As if they're on the outside looking in. And they can't bear to take their eyes off the couple.
The eratic thrusts, the moans and grunts of each other's names. The way his body fits into Emma's. The way they say 'I love you' at the same time.
...
She remebers the day he stopped loving her. He didn't look at her like that anymore. The looks he shared with a brunette with chrome eyes across the grille, even the wedding ring around his neck
And as much as it pained her to admit it; Stefan loved Emma far more than he's ever loved her. More than he's ever loved anyone, for that matter. Even Elena if that was possible. He's loved her unconditionally and irrevocably. Despite all the terrible things they'd both done. And Caroline could never imagine loving somebody that much. Maybe that's why they split up, maybe they loved each other too much for the sake of their sanity. Maybe it was better that way
Besides he even told her "If anything made sense for the past one hundred and fourty-nine years, it's Emma. It was always Emma"
So she'd just have to accept it.
end.
