The lesson of the day: Never make promises.
I don't mean little ones, like promising the neighbour to take out the trash or promising a friend to get him a hot date. I'm talking about the other kind of promises. The ones you make under the delusions of love. The ones some people think of as written in blood. The ones I wrote in blood.
I made a blood promise to all of them that I would protect them forever. I told them I would sacrifice my life for them. And I meant it. I was twelve. I was a kid. But at that moment I was willing to do whatever it took to keep them safe. They needed me and I would be there for them no matter what.
I had no idea what I was in for.
