The Pitt
The Great War…. The most fatal event that changed the history of humanity. On Saturday, October 23, 2077 nuclear weapons were launched by all the nuclear-capable nations… The exchange lasted for about 2 bloody hours. Once the last atomic bomb and nuclear warhead had fallen, the world fell into the deep darkness of a nuclear holocaust. The result was the destruction of the civilization.
I was born in Pittsburgh or simply called The Pitt. An industrial city in the back of beyond. We weren't such a threat until the Scourge. In the night of August 8, 2255 the Brotherhood of Steel passed through our city. Some tough guys in shiny armor claiming to be some kind of an organization which we never heard of. They would shoot at anyone who gets in their way, with no hesitation. A group of crackpots and raiders started a conflict and all hell broke loose. Everything happened extremely fast. So we called it the Scourge. Another cataclysmic outcome for this abominable town. Nearly the entire population of the Pitt was wiped out by the ruthless members of the Brotherhood of Steel, including my family.
I regained consciousness by the daybreak. I slowly opened up my eyes blinded from the haze feeling dizzy. I looked up to the poisonous sky lost in my thoughts.
"Did all this really happen?" I thought to myself.
I thought everything was over but it was hardly the mere beginning. Surrounded by blood and corpses, I got up barely standing on my feet. Suddenly I felt a gentle touch on my shoulder and I turned around. It was someone who I never seen before… He had tar black hair and mousse brown eyes, the kind you could get lost in, and I guess I did….
"Are you alright?" he asked me.
"Everyone's DEAD! What do you think…"
"Hmm, I don't know. You don't seem like you can handle yourself. It's surprising that you're not seriously harmed."
" I don't know either... Bullets were flying everywhere, even some of the others jumped into the river just so they don't get shot… And what about you?"
"Heh… I was on a night shift out in the supply plant. They wouldn't come out there. By now that place is crawling with trogs and wildmen. But that doesn't matter now. I just want to get out of here. I never liked this place. I can set off a new life out there in the wastes"
"And you're just thinking about going alone? It's a long way out there, you know…"
"Well, are you thinking about staying here? Yeah that's what I thought. Now get your ass moving."
"I don't even know who you are. My name's Elyse…"
"And I'm Ethan. Now let's just get outta here. This place has no future."
I was unsure... The idea of taking this road with him…. A complete stranger. I just met him… but hell, as sure I didn't want to spend my whole life here. I had nothing to lose. I'm willing to risk my life and I took his hand.
