Title: Loyalties

Pairing/s: Dean/Cas

Disclaimer: Kriiiipkee!

Summary: Castiel's loyalties are crossed.

A/N: Written because as a Christian viewer of Supernatural, I sometimes feel uncomfortable with the themes presented in the show. But I can't help being drawn to Dean/Castiel. This kind of gives me some closure.

Castiel's loyalties are crossed.

It's not some big secret; in fact, it's a rumour that's been stretched to the point of gross exaggeration among his brothers. He's not sure, but he thinks Uriel's the one who first started joking about his passionate love for the human Dean. (It's not so much of a joke as it is a burden, not so much love as it is a dull ache in his heart.) He does know that suddenly, recently it's become harder and harder to be able to look the others in the eye when he knows he'd rather be anywhere else (anywhere with Dean.)

But his Father is everything to him, everything. He doesn't understand why some think he cannot love both God and men. After all, many humans do it daily. But lately, it seems his brothers enjoy pushing him to the edge, asking who he would sacrifice more for, who he loves more, who he'd do absolutely anything for but to serve.

It's true that he loves Dean. It's not something he worries about hiding. He loves all of his Father's creations, for they are all beautiful in their way. But since he's spent time with Dean, there have been things he's noticed, little things that make no difference but that make Castiel love him all the more.

He loves the little smirks Dean gives when he knows he's bested Sam (yet again). He loves the winks and gentle caresses Dean uses to coax a woman into bed with him. He loves the way Dean's eyes flash with flecks of gold when his brother's life is threatened.

Yes, Castiel loves Dean, more than all on Earth and in Heaven.

But if you asked him, just asked who he loved more, he would say his Father's name without thinking. Because Dean gave him his life.

But God gave him Dean.
