Disclaimer:tribe is not mine. But one can wish can't they??!!/p
It's late here. One in the morning, or close to it. The rest of the
mall rats are asleep.
Though I can't. every once in a while I get these attacks of insomnia and I
lay
around thinking. Mainly about how things were. My family, school, my
friends,
and a lot of the time Bray and Martin.Tonight I'm having one of those
nights
It was earlyspring in the city. I was walking home from school. The
sun was out and there
wasn't a cloud in the sky. The wind was blowing pretty hard so I tied my
uniform bandana at the nape of my neck to keep my hair back.. I keep
walking
down the street. There are a lot of kids playing outside. Half the adults
have
already been killed off by the virus. Every day that goes by that my
parents
are unaffected is like a blessing. Unfortunately every day that goes by I
have
to worry that my parents will find out.other things, as well.
That time didn'tlast long though, not long after Bray's parents
died, mine caught the virus.
They, thank goodness, didn't suffer as long as some, but it was sad just
the
same. The day after, I went over to bray's. I couldn't stay in the house,
it
was just to much and I wanted to see a familiar face
Martin didn't livethere anymore. He had completely become
"Zoot" and had moved out. I think he didn't know he was going to be a
father.
He would soon though.
Bray and I talkedabout everything. The past, the future, what would
happen, what has happened.
Why everything happened the way it did. We figured that what would happen
would
happen, and we'd have to face it. But at least we would stick together and
not
have to face it alone.
The pre-history had ended. There weren't any adults anymore. Well
that is, none except me. Out
of all the darkness in the past year and a half, braidy is my only ray of
light. We settled in the mall. Bray, me, and some kids from school. Jack,
alice, her siblings, tai-san, lex, may. And most unfortunalty, ebony.
But we've banned together. We're sticking together. We're like a family.
We're the mallrats.
