She slid her hand into his as she stepped lightly over the cool yellow sand. Her brown eyes gazed into the swaying depths of the ocean, the delicate ripples in the water, the way they grew, became waves and crashed into nothing over and over again.
"It's beautiful, perfect in every single way imaginable," she whispered squeezing his hand lightly.
"Wonders of Earth," he whispered back happily, "Rose, why do you think this is like my second home?"
She didn't answer. Her pose stiffened slightly as if hesitant. He stared at her slightly perplexed.
"What was your home like, Doctor?" she whispered after a moment of silence.
He stopped, his face a mask of his pain and loss.
"Perfect. It was so perfect. Like gazing into a fire, the calmness you feel, like searching into a pit of endless knowledge that you just can't seem to grasp…But just the feeling, it makes you want to keep fighting for it forever. I had to watch it burn. Everything… turned to dust before my very eyes… And I could do nothing but watch it go, all the history, all my family, my memories, gone," his voice shook in anguish, "no home to go back to, no one who understood my pain."
A silent tear trickled down his cheek, "I am alone."
Rose pulled him into his arms and felt his tear fall lightly on her shoulder, "I'm always here for you, I'll never leave you. You're never going to be alone again."
She swallowed, she really did mean it. He looked at her, a silent smile formed but she could still see some pain in his eyes.
"My Rose Tyler, the most brilliant human in existence, what would I do without you?"
She smiled back, not understanding his small hint. They turned away and started walking to the Tardis.
"Rose Tyler," he murmured silently under his breath, "what will I do without you?"
