Things Left Unsaid
You know Sakura doesn't love you the way she did any more.
You know because she no longer calls you Sasuke-kun out of affection but rather out of habit. (She stops trying to sound seductive or what-so-ever to get your attention when she calls your name.)
She no longer blushes when you stare at her. (She will merely stare back and ask you if there was something on her face).
She no longer cares if you would prefer a long-haired girl to be your girlfriend. (She keeps her hair short now so that it doesn't gets in her way.)
She no longer dreams of marrying you and having a dozen children with you. (She is happily married to your teammate and she's having his baby in her wombs now.)
Your genius mind registers all these and more but you don't really want to acknowledge the fact until now - when she is sitting right in front of you, besides Naruto. The couple had insisted to invite you over for dinner and Naruto practically hauled your ass over here. You still don't understand why they still bother to bother you.
"Oi teme, why haven't you got yourself a girlfriend? What is your type, really?" Naruto suddenly blurts out the question with his mouth full. You have to look away or else you can see the remaining of ramen in his mouth, which is a sight you don't fancy seeing.
"I have no type."
"What?! Are you gay?" That idiot almost spits his food on you.
You roll your eyes.
"Just because I'm not interested in girls, it doesn't make me a gay, dobe. And stop talking with your mouth full. It's disgusting."
Sakura laughs at her husband's antic. Her laugh rings like a silver bell that instantly brightens up the room. And you start wondering why you never notice this before.
"Heh, sorry."
Naruto scratch his head and apologize, clearly embarrassed.
And you forgive him and forget about the entire thing. Because this is nothing compares to what they have forgiven you for.
After dinner, they walk you to their doorstep.
"Dear, can you get my coat for me?" Sakura asks sweetly and Naruto oblige without protest. You sweatdrop at this.
"You don't need to walk me home."
"No, but I want to."
You sigh inwardly. She is stubborn like that. You don't really know what to say when there are just the two of you. So all you can think of to say is, "Congratulations, Sakura. I mean for your baby."
"Thank you." She smiles warmly.
Years ago, you once said the same thing to her. But it doesn't really matter now.
"You really don't need to walk me home. You might catch a cold and Naruto will kill me if you do."
"Hey, what are you both talking behind my back? I hear someone mention my name."
Naruto always has the perfect timing.
"Sasuke-kun is saying we don't need to walk him home." Sakura pouts and points her finger to you.
"I'm just saying I'm fine by myself. Besides you wouldn't want her to catch a cold, do you?" You frown and hope that they will just let this slip.
"No way! But next time don't ya come alone, Sasuke."
Naruto grins but you merely look away, muttering, "Whatever…"
With that, you turn your back and leave. Even without glancing back, you know that they are still standing at their doorway, watching your back like a guardian until you are finally out of their sight.
You know Sakura doesn't love you the way she did any more. But it is okay. They are your family now.
