Two weeks after the defeat of Ozai, Zuko was getting ready for his coronation. He continued to stare at the wall hangings, scarlet in the fading sun. Thoughts kept gnawing at his mind: What if I had told Katara how much i really loved her? Would she have picked the avatar over me then? She thinks i saved her out of respect for Aang, but it was really because i care about her. I wouldn't be able to go on if i had stood and watched while Azula went straight for her.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Zuko said tiredly.
Mai opened the door, strolling in with a smile on her face.
"It's time, Zuko."
He stood up, looking at her eyes. There was no depth, no window. It was as if her soul didn't exist. Mai was cold and ruthless.
"I'll be down in a minute."
She looked at him for a moment, then turned and walked out.
Zuko waited for her shadow to disappear, then walked over to the dresser, opening a drawer to pick up a photograph. Katara's face stared out from the frame, her eyes twinkling. He thought back to the day when that photo was taken.
"What are you going to do when you find him?"
Katara looked at him with those smoldering eyes. Those eyes, combined with her expression, said: I don't know. I'm going to need your help.
"Katara, I can take him out if you want me to. I want to help."
"Zuko, you can't. This is something I have to do on my own. I wanted you to come because I don't trust myself to not kill him, and I know you would stop me."
He turned away, smiling sadly. If only she knew what he would do for her.
Should i continue writing? btw, the memory is set in Southern Raiders! total Zutara episode!
