This is really short, it's just an idea I had. It's really just Jack reflecting on the people he has lost. Please R&R, constructive criticism appreciated!
Jack held the death certificates of Toshiko Sato and Owen Harper in his shaking hands. One said 'death by gunshot' the other 'death by nuclear energy'. Jack wondered what had become of Owen. Was he really dead, or had his death been stalled once again? He knew that was what Gwen wanted. He could tell b the tiny flicker of hope in hr eyes. Ianto had accepted their deaths and understood that neither were coming back.
Jack had lost so many people. His friends, his lovers, his family. He thought of Gray, the brother whose hand he let go of. The brother who had nearly succeeded in destroying Torchwood and Cardiff. The brother who had killed Toshiko in cold blood. Whatever had taken him had changed him, twisted him and warped his ideas.
He thought of Estelle. During the second world war they had been in love. Then he had found her, fifty years later, posed as his own son. He built up an amazing and unbreakable friendship with her. Or so he thought. When the 'fairies' killed her, he was devastated. He knew no one could replace her.
He thought of Rose, trapped in another universe, unable to reach him and the Doctor. He had saved her during the London blitz. She had fallen for his charm. And there was something about her. The blonde hair, the twinkling brown eyes, the enthusiastic, roguish smile. Now he could never see her again, dead or not.
He thought of Suzie. She had killed herself standing in front of him after he came back to life. Her death certificate read 'death by Torchwood'. she had tried to save herself by draining the life out of Gwen. She suffered so many deaths in the end.
He thought of them all, and many more.
All the people he had lost. He removed a list on yellowing paper. The list of Torchwood recruits killed in the line of duty. With a heavy heart, he picked up his chunky, old-fashioned pen and added Toshiko and Owen to the list.
The end
