It was a rainy day over the base as the new planes arrived. There was something different this base. It seemed empty.
"Lost in thought again, Juno?"
"Oh, sorry, I'm just thinking about the new base." He responded.
"Come on man that's the third time this flight, if something is on your mind just tell us. Also ease up Easy." Juno's third wingman said. She was by far the most skilled pilot next to Himself.
"Lightning, Easy, Cut the chatter, I have the base in sight. Follow me in." Juno said. He banked his Sanka Mk.B left and started the approach. As he was landing he saw the bases area, 262. He touched down and swiftly turned off the runway, then taxied to the hangars. He shut off the engine and climbed out, stretching as he did. He saw the rest of his squadron land and waited for them.
"So, you must be one of the new pilots." Someone said behind Derrick. She looked middle aged, but with a fury in her eyes.
"Why yes I am, I'm Derrick Briggs. Nice to meet you." He said, extending a hand.
"Towa Sasakura, lead mechanic." She said. She had the kind of attitude that said "I dont want to deal with your nonsense." But Derrick understood that and regrettably put his hand down.
"Yo, Derrick, whatcha doin' we gotta go to the base commanders office." Said Marcus.
"I was waiting for you, ya bastard." Derrick said jokingly. His other wingman, Maya, just stood there arms crossed with a look of anger in her face. She wasn't much of a talker, but in the air she could literally talk for six hours straight.
Carrying their flight equipment, the walked up the stairs to the Base commander's office.
"Your squadron arrived earlier than expected, I'm impressed. I'm Suito Kusanagi..."
"I heard about you, your that person who killed.."Marcus said, abruptly stopping after a bullet flew past his face.
"I'm sorry about him, CO Kusanagi, we were reassigned here from the 99th squadron." Derrick explained, fearing for his friends life.
"I know... I've also notice that your tails are painted red. Why is that?" She asked.
"Well we just wanted to be distinctive, you know like the 'Teacher'" Marcus answered, hiding behind Derrick.
"Hmm... well your rooms ad roommates are on this paper" she handed Derrick a piece of paper."And your squadron is going up tomorrow with Tokino, Marcus's roommate. Dismissed" She said. As the three of them walked out the room Derrick looked at the bullet hole and decided not to say anything, after all every pilot counts.
