In the Eyes of the Beholder.

Disclaimer: I am mine, but the rest is not.

Summary: A 14 year old girl named Taylor ((hey, that's me!)) moves to Stars Hollow.

I am sitting in my very first town meeting. Some old guy who shares my name is banging a gavel (dirty) and calling for order. A Hispanic woman called Gypsy is standing and flailing her arms about in a haughty manner, yelling at the owner of the book store. She's talking so fast and her accent is so thick that I am convinced I'll never know the reason for their quarrel.

The woman sitting next to me leans over and asks me if I'm new; she says she knows everyone in town and I don't look familiar. I study her for a moment, taking in her dark hair and piercing blue eyes. She's older then me by about 25 years, but she just seems younger. Earlier I saw her throwing French fries at the Town Selectman. I decide she's trustworthy and tell her that I just moved here from Cape Cod last week. She laughs and asks me how many krophogs it took me to get here. I just look at her as she giggles. After a moment I turn my attention back to Taylor Doose, who has calmed everyone down and is now pulling out posters with pictures of what I assume is his own roof. He points at a picture, gesturing towards the microscopic little blemish on the chimney.

"Bird waste." He says. "We must act against these birds and bring down their rein of terror." I can't help but giggle at the absurdity of this man. I stop abruptly when his glare falls upon me.

"Leave the birds alone, Taylor." I hear the man sitting next to Krophog Woman say. I look at him. He's a bit older then her, and is wearing a backwards baseball cap and flannel. He looks like the Brawny Paper Towel guy.

"Don't start with me, young man." The Town Selectman warns, wagging his finger at Brawny man, as if he was scolding a child.

"Don't kill the little flying Donalds!" Gypsy proclaims.

They argue like this for 15 minutes. Then they have a vote, and it seems the wasteful birds will live to crap on more roofs for years to come. The meeting ends and Krophog woman walks over to me. She asks me to join her and her daughters, Rory and April, for dinner at Luke's diner. She says she wants to get to know me and to show me around town. I am confused, because Cape Codians aren't so warm and welcoming like this. She says I'll really like April, because we're the same age and we both have glasses. I don't have time to decipher her reasoning because I am already being led down the dark street toward Luke's. She is very chatty. She is talking up a storm, telling me about the town and how her husband owns the diner so she gets all the coffee she wants.

We pass through the door, and the sound of bells sings at us jauntily. We sit, she starts to introduce me to Rory and April. Then she realizes she hasn't asked me my name. I say my name is Taylor.

The three people sitting in front of me erupt into a hearty laughter.
