The young boy walked around the castle alone as he always had done. He was the only child in his family and had been used to finding a way of entertaining himself before. However, on this day he was bored of trying to find something to do by himself. it would be another year before he could go with his father and the other men in his tribe to hunt in the Thousand Year Grasslands.

He took the stairs to the Southwest Tower and looked out over the Great Kells that stretched south until the broke into Kumbricia's Pass. In the late afternoon light the mountains looked purple except where the snow lay near the higher peaks. He looked down into the small villages of his tribe and saw the smoke from the fires rising and getting smudged in the wind. He then looked back into the walls of the castle and saw a lone girl walking along battlement. From this hight he could tell that she was not sure where she was. He turned quickly and made his way to the wall that the girl was on.

As he approached her she backed away from him her eyes wide. "I-I'm afraid that I'm lost."

"I can help you find your way." the boy said, offering her his hand.

The girl smiled and took his hand as he turned and led her down into the main courtyard of the castle. "Where was it that you were trying to go?" he asked.

"I was just wanting to see the castle." the girl said. "I'm really not supposed to be here."

The boy nodded. He hadn't been out of the castle in a little over two years and was glad to finally have a friend. He took her hand again and said, "Come on. I want to show you something." He led her back up to the Southwest Tower and let her look out over the mountains and villages.

"This is so beautiful!" the girl exclaimed.

They looked at each other and grinned before looking back out at the view. as the sun started to set they made their way down to the main gate of the castle.

"Why haven't I seen you in the villages?" the girl asked. "I never have seen you before today."

"I've rarely left the castle." the boy said. "Unless my parents take me with them somewhere."

"So you live here?"

"Yes. It does get boring with me being an only child and no other children living in the castle, but I'm glad that I have a new friend. That is, if we are friends."

The girl was silent for a moment before she nodded. "Of course we are. And to make it official I'll tell you my name. Sarima Fanerra."

"I'll tell you my name too." the boy said. "I'm Fiyero. Fiyero Tigelaar."

Sarima's eyes widened and her mouth fell open. "You-you're...oh no." She turned quickly and ran back toward the villages below the castle. It was then that his mother came up behind him.

"What is it son?" she asked.

"That girl just ran away when she heard my name." Fiyero said. "Is there something wrong with me?"

His mother looked out after Sarima and gasped. "Darling, nothing is wrong with you. Its just that she realized that the tradition of you not seeing your bride of your arranged marriage was broken."

Fiyero looked after Sarima, realizing that his new friend was his wife.
