I am Number 7.
Oh, not Hargreeves' number 7. I am number 7 of the USP- the Unified Space Program, training 7 children from birth to be the ideal astronauts. All our lives we have been training our bodies and minds, to become the perfect candidates to take space exploration to the next step. We will be the next Yuri Gagarin, the next Alexei Leonov, the next Neil Armstrong.
No-one can quite agree on whose idea this was. All that we can agree is that we learnt about the Umbrella Academy in our current affairs lesson around the same time they learnt about us. Somebody, somewhere, decided that an exchange would be a good idea, like we were 11-year old schoolchildren (we were 11 year old children, but that isn't the point…).
So that explains how the seven of us are strapped into a private jet with a chimpanzee, flying across the ocean for a month. What in the Universe could go wrong?
A.N. So here was an idea I had while mixing re-watching The Umbrella Academy with spaceflight documentaries. The people mentioned were the first men in space, to carry out a spacewalk, and to land on the moon respectively. Let me know what you think!
