Deep In The Medow
The Sun shone through my window. I woke up and went to the bathroom. It wasn't that far because my family's home was small. I washed my face with some water and combed my hair. Today was the big day. My first reaping would be held today. My hands sweated at the thought of being picked. I would be the first of my siblings to be reaped. I sat down on the toilet and prayed that I would not get chosen, but little did I know that my fate was already chosen.
Somebody knocked on the door. "Occupied." I said. "Happy Reaping Day! You are going to do just fine sweetheart!" My mother confirmed. I opened the door and saw her with a beautiful light gray dress. "Just for you!" She said. I smiled and hugged her. Tears ran down from my if this was my last day here in District 11?
I thought. We stood there with ourselves holding on to each other for a long time until my father got home.
"How are you princess? Are you feeling okay?" He asked. He lifted me up and carried me to the kitchen table. All my siblings were watching TV and shouting loudly. My mom had to tell them to sit down to eat more than five times until they listened. We ate bits of toast and a little chicken. I stood up and thanked my parents for the food and went to get ready for the reaping.
After a while, everyone was ready and we went to the reaping. The walk from my home to the reaping was not that far so we arrived there a little early. The tension was in the air. The peacekeepers stood at both ends of the stage where the escort would pick the two tributes from our district to participate in The Hunger Games.
When everybody was gathered the ceremony began. The escort first started by explaining why they made the first Hunger Games and how important they were. I did not listen to any of that because I was too worried about myself. Finally, the peacekeepers brought a clear box full of papers with the names of each male of the age of 12 to 18. She reached into the box and took out a paper with the name of "Thresh Moore" I looked to see who the name belonged to and I saw him, a tall boy with lots of muscles and a confident smile. "He'll have no problems in the Hunger Games." I thought. After that the escort took out the name of the female that would represent District 11 on the 74th Hunger Games. She read "Rue Stern" and I did not have to look out for the girl because she was me.
