"Where is she?"

Where is she? Does no one know? Did she die? Did she sail? How old was I, that I do not know? Her name, what was her name? Did I know it once? And her features, the color of her hair? Why are they not known to me? What did she do or fail to do that she should be forgotten? She wed, she bore a child. Was there but one? Why is it unspoken? My heart grieves…for a nameless elleth, a faceless elleth. My heart fears that should we meet I will not know her. That none will know her. How could they? If the one who guided our steps and plotted our futures did not name her, who can? If he did not see her in his mind's eye, who will? Alas, I am a son who will never see his mother. Yet if none could recognize her, perhaps I have seen her and did not know, perhaps I have passed her by without speaking. Valar, say I have not! What is worse for a mother than to be forgotten by their child? But…I have not forgotten…for if I remember she is lost, then she is not. Where is she? Do you not know? She is in my heart and there will she live.

Wikipedia says micro fiction is a story in 250 words or less. I think the Challenge allowed us to use up to 300 words. Did you know who is 'speaking' in this? It was Legolas about his mother. To the best of my knowledge Tolkien never gave her a name or told us what happened to her. The line about the one who guided steps and plotted futures was a reference to JRR.
