Five years of being in a relationship boiled down to nothing when you find your lover with another. It hurt. Naruto couldn't deny it. He could feel the tears dripping down, the bag in his fist gripped tighter as the emotions rolled through him. Loving someone was a double edged sword. Love meant affection and security but also the knowledge that you would be hurt by the person you trusted the most. The sword of that love dug deep into his heart, betrayal and heartache a catatonic mixture that froze him at the doorway to their bedroom.

He had seen so many soap operas and movies with the same crappy plot: one lover cheating on their significant other with the best friend. He never thought he would be the person in the same plot. That he would be walking in on his boyfriend having sex with someone he had considered a best friend since junior high. Him, Sakura, and Sasuke had all grown up together. Sakura had been with them since Sasuke and him were rivals and had witnessed their growth into friends and eventually lovers. He wanted to spend his entire life Sasuke. He wanted to grow old and go house shopping and all that other crap happy couples did.

He thought he knew what true happiness was when he discovered the beauty that was ramen. But then he knew he was wrong when Sasuke and him first kissed and then again when they admitted their love. His state of happiness just kept rising with every milestone they took. But now it crumbled as he continued to watch them, his Sasuke deep inside of Sakura. Maybe that was it. Maybe he didn't want him anymore. Maybe what he wanted was what Sakura had to offer: a different kind of anatomy.

But that realization didn't quail his rising anger. There was no logical reason for Sasuke to hurt him, to cheat, to fuck his best friend that he had claimed to have no interest in, to betray his trust like this.

Sakura had spread her legs wider, her breasts exposed as the sheets curled around her frame. Sasuke's backside was in his view but he could not appreciate it. It was their anniversary and his present was infidelity. He couldn't will himself to move. He wanted to, he wanted to turn on his heel and pretend that he never stumbled across from them. But he was curious as to how many times they have done this, if there had been others? He had left work early, so Sasuke surely wasn't expecting him.

He made it to the front door when they climaxed, their joined moans echoing in his ears as he left.

He didn't know where to go. Sasuke had always been the person he was with, always together unless work separated them. If they were having problems he would always run to Sakura, logical and reasonable Sakura who gave the best advice. Now he was unsure if she was just gathering information to put a wedge between them. But Sakura was not the only one at fault. Sex is suppose to be a consensual act and it looked like both of his so called friends had agreed.

It stung so bad.

"Naruto?" His head snapped up, his eyes meeting green orbs. His feet had led him to Gaara's apartment just on the outskirts of the main square.

His arms reached out before his brain could catch up, hanging onto the long sleeves of Gaara's sweater. It was cold, the snow nipping at his flesh as he buried his face into the space between Gaara's shoulder and neck. He didn't know how long he had cried or how he had made his way to the couch. Everything felt like it was at a standstill. He probably should let go, shouldn't have been touching Gaara anyway. His friend didn't like to be touched but he only gripped on tighter.

Everything came spilling out, word vomit for sure, most of his words lost against the red fabric. Gaara seemed to have caught the gist of it for his grip on his shoulder tightened and hissed out threat after threat.

"I'm going to kill him." The way he said those words should have chilled him. But he recalled the same words that would fall from his father's tongue before he turned his little mob into a corporation that was still blooming and respected. NU Corporations was growing strong and he knew his father would not want to be kept out of the loop of what has transpired. Naruto grew up around violence, he was numb to it, and eve his father's coworkers had commented on how soft the son of a Namikaze had grown up to be. But he was immune to violence and had culled the violence into submission. But Gaara's words conjured up all of the dark parts and he too wanted to make Sasuke suffer. But another part was in denial, hoping that Sasuke would want to amend and commit himself fully to him. But days had passed, the guest room in Gaara's apartment his new home. Sasuke had yet to contact him. Had yet to check up on him and see why his boyfriend was missing. It was just proving he didn't care, that he would have never admitted to his actions.

He gave in and called, Gaara at the kitchen counter drinking his tea and reading his paper. Sasuke always had Sundays off but Sasuke did not answer until the fifth call.

"Hi Sasuke."

"Hn, dope. Where have you been?"

"I got sent on a last minute errand for the company that is taking longer than usual. I should be home soon though. But enough about that, what have you been up to?"

"Just work. Being an Uchiha does require more than looks you know." Naruto wanted to make a joke but Sasuke was keeping his little deed a secret.

"Have you met with Sakura as of late? I need to talk to her about something." Smooth. He could hear Gaara's snort behind him as he passed him to take a seat on the couch.

"I haven't but I'm sure she'll get back to you. Look dope, I have to go." There was shuffling in the background, a broken moan, and the phone hung up.

He felt numb, letting his hand fall away from the phone as his cell skirted to the ground. Gaara sighed, put down his objects and embraced him.

"He doesn't want me. He lied. He lied," broken sobs and a shaking frame nuzzled against a pale body. His cries did not die down until Gaara had growled, the sound thundering through his chest as he held the blond closer.

"I'll kill him. I swear. I'll rip him to shreds with my teeth." The words sounded beautiful as they were whispered harshly against his ear. Tentative movements gave the redhead pause. He looked down as Naruto shifted to be in his lap. Naruto wasn't sure what he was doing. He just wanted to touch Gaara, have him embrace him more, and focus only on him. Sasuke was not worth Gaara's attention.

Gaara didn't move, he just let the blond explore as he wished. But when the blond peered up at him, he was tempted to lift his own hands. But he couldn't.

"I don't want to be a second choice." Naruto was confused. Gaara had never been a second choice to him. But he understood when he brought back to mind the events that had taken place only moment's ago. He didn't want Gaara to feel like a rebound.

"Never." He pecked him on the check and felt Gaara go still. Naruto didn't push it, just staid curled against him and let himself go to sleep. The next few weeks were spent like that, the blond deciding to skip going back home. Minato had been informed in case he wanted to pop in for a surprise visit. It took all the took in his possession to convince his parents that he could handle the teme.

Gaara had offered his services, his hand cradling the younger male to him. He wanted to protect the blond and also to prove himself more worthy than that scum. As far as Gaara was concerned, the blond was already his. He just needed more time to stake his claim. He smiled as the blond spilled his dark thoughts to him, the tears drying as he wiped them away. Sasuke would suffer and Naruto had just the plan to make Sasuke pay.
