Disclaimer: I'm sad to say that I don't own Smallville. I leave that to creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, along with Smallville developers, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
Chloe Sullivan woke slowly as she felt someone brush back a loose strand of her hair. When her eyes adjusted to the dark, she smiled at Oliver Queen who had smiled right back at her. It had been hell not seeing him when she wanted to. "Are you watching me sleep?" she asked him.
Chloe waited for him to answer, but instead, she heard the most romantic thing he has ever said to her. "I rather not do without you," he said and then she noticed a hint of sadness and regret in his voice. "I spent the past few months blaming myself for your death."
Chloe looked at him and didn't say anything at first. She wondered when he was going to mention that. She essentially lied to the one person who would give her everything without even asking, her cousin, and her best friend. She had moments thinking that any of them wouldn't forgive her, but they welcomed her with open arms. She wanted to cry, but she refused to give into them because Oliver deserved an honest answer. "I knew you would," she told him, "and that wasn't easy for me knowing that you'd suffer. I'd have spared you the pain, Oliver." She sat up suddenly uncomfortable with lying down next to him. "If I had been with you, I'd have endured the same thing and then who knows what would've happened. Who would've saved us?"
Oliver sat up with her and smiled. "You're a hell of a sidekick," he told her. "You don't have to justify yourself to me. You hang around me and Clark long enough eventually you'd save us from ourselves. You had that, and we both understand."
There was something important that Oliver wanted to say, so Chloe stayed quiet so he can get his thoughts out.
"I love you, Chloe, and that won't change." Oliver kissed her softly. "I want to spend a little more time with you before Lois takes you away from me to help her with her wedding."
Chloe gave him a smile. "I love you too, Oliver," she told him and leaned into him. She thought for a moment to take their minds off of everything. "Don't you find it a bit weird that your ex is marrying your best friend?"
There was a hint of a smile. "Not as weird as that I'm going to make love with my ex's cousin until she screams my name," Oliver retorted then kissed her as he pushed her under him. They both knew that they don't think of each other in those terms. It was a friendship that blossomed into a relationship.
Chloe couldn't help herself but laugh. "Am I really?" she asked coyly.
"You won't have a choice otherwise," he said.
