(A/N~ Written for Klcm for her birthday! Happy birthday!)
Penelope walked out of her apartment and into the warm sunshine. The sun flooded over her skin like a warm, cheery hug. She drank in the smell of spring as she absorbed the rays. Today was her 35th birthday. 35 years on the planet Earth, and she thought they had been good. Her recent break up with Kevin had shaken her though. It wasn't that she didn't love him. She did. She just didn't want to ruin what they had by getting married. Once she arrived at Quantico, she was met in the BAU room by her teammates and co-workers.
"Happy birthday, Garcia!" They chorused together.
"Oh, you guys! Thanks!" She hugged each of them as they gathered around her. When Derek Morgan reached her, he pulled her close and kissed her cheek.
"Happy birthday, baby girl," he said.
"Thank you. You guys didn't have to do this," tears threatened to spill out of her eyes as she was overwhelmed with joy and love.
Her closest friend and mother of her godson, JJ, approached her with a tray of beautifully made cupcakes. They were blue velvet with thick, blue frosting.
"Wow, these look delicious, Jaj! Thank you!"
"Henry picked the color," she admitted. "Now blow out your candles, birthday girl!"
Penelope closed her eyes. She wished with all her might for one thing as she blew out the candles that were shaped like a 3 and a 5. When she opened her eyes, she searched for his face and found him smiling. Derek beamed at her, flashing those beautiful pearly whites. She wondered to herself if it was possible to love two people at the same time. Was the love she felt for Derek Morgan romantic love, or just friendship? He was her best friend. She would do anything for him. And he would do anything for her. Her wish had been to know how she really felt about him, and how he felt about her. She'd give anything to have that question answered. The little makeshift party broke up as the team retreated to their offices and the bullpen to get started on paperwork. At the end of the day, she met Morgan, JJ, Emily, and Reid to head to dinner. In the parking lot outside of DiNozo's, Derek stopped her.
"Baby girl, hold up a sec. Let me ask you something," he said.
"Okay. What?" She asked timidly.
Instead of answering her with words, he pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss. Well, shit. That answers that question.
"I love you," he whispered when he finally pulled away.
"Oh, Derek. I think I love you, too," she replied as a beautiful comet streaked across the sky. It seemed as if the heavens had granted her birthday wish.
