On A String

Whenever they fought

He was the one who fought back

It might have been his brother

Who initiated the fight

But it was him

Who physically retaliated back

It was him who hit his brother

He would hit his brother

Until his brother hit him back

Until his brother overpowered him

And pinned him to the ground

With the weight of his body

It might have been normal

For them to fight

After all, they are brothers

But, their fights always had meaning

To them

They weren't petty fights

About small things

They were much more

Words ran deep

And as more words were said

More blows were swung

Until their relationship

Unraveled

Until their relationship,

Their brotherly bond

Was hanging on a string

That piece of string,

The piece of string

Holding their relationship

Together

Was the line between

Brotherly love

And trust

It became a line

They had crossed over so many times

A line that they thought

Would have snapped

By the weight of their arguments

By the weight of their words

Yet, somehow the string

Never broke

Not completely anyway.

The string had remained strong

Throughout all that was said

They never allowed the string

To become fully broken

Nor would they

For they are brothers

And shall remain brothers.
