Subaru stood by the window. He had been standing there all day. But not because Seishirou was coming home that day from a conference. Oh no. It was a nice day, and that was all. Anyway, he hadn't even been counting the thirteen days since Seishirou left. So of course, he didn't know that Seishirou was supposed to back twenty-three minutes and 14—no, 15 seconds ago.
But Subaru only knew that because Hokuto-chan had been bothering him about it. But then he remembered she was out shopping. Okay, so he did know, but he only knew because . . . because Hokuto-chan was out! Yes, that was it. He felt a little lonely because Hokuto-chan was out, and he was all alone. Yes that was it.
He considered running outside to see if Seishirou was coming. Or maybe he should climb on the roof; he could probably see him from up there. If he could figure out how to get up there. Which could surely be easily figured out, that is, if Subaru was actually waiting for Seishirou for more than a time-waster. Because Subaru didn't have a hobby of waiting for Seishirou. No, he was just . . . really bored on the days that, conveniently, Seishirou was coming home. Which was only a coincidence. Of course it was.
But he wouldn't admit to many people that there was a coincidence like that. No people. A spirit, maybe, if he could find one who was more angst-ridden than himself. Which was highly unlikely. Seishirou would listen. And, no, he wasn't smiling because of that thought. It was the flowers. They made him smile. And he wasn't really blushing. No, it was just the sun shining off his jacket. His red one. Which was shiny. A little bit. And his blood wasn't rushing south and causing disturbances down there. No, there were no disturbances. It was a figment of someone else's imagination. Or maybe a curse. Yes, it could be a curse. That caused his . . . friend down there . . .to look up.
And of course, that didn't normally happen when he thought about Seishirou. It had never happened for him to compare it to before, when he thought about Seishirou, that is. Of course not. I mean, that one time when Seishirou was hugging him really tight hardly counts. Or, that other time, when Seishirou was carrying him, c'mon. It wasn't because of Seishirou.
And then Subaru heard a noise like foot steps, and ran out the door. And there was Seishirou. Before Subaru's mind had time to compute things, he found himself wrapping his arms around Seishirou's waist. Not because he wanted to, though. It was just instinct. Yeah, instinct. But then, Seishirou's arms wrapped around him, and Subaru felt his friend look up again.
Subaru pulled away, and spun around, facing a wall, as Seishirou smirked at his back.
"How was the conference," Subaru asked, folding his arms on his chest.
Seishirou spun him around and pressed a chaste kiss to the other's dry lips.
"Fine. And, oh, don't worry," he whispered into Subaru's ear, causing him to shudder, and a chuckle to escape Seishirou's lips. "I didn't miss you either." Subaru smiled.
But of course, he was only smiling because Seishirou hadn't missed him either, not because he knew that they were both lying through their teeth and damn proud of it. Oh no. That wasn't true at all.
