"How could she do this to me? How could she leave me behind, all alone? She's gone. Yet I'm still here. Why am I alive? Why can't I just die?"

Vaughn's mind was fighting wildly and desperately. He was full of rage, but he couldn't find the strength to control the tears running freely down his face. He didn't whimper, he didn't sob, he didn't shudder- he was completely motionless and silent. Tear after splashed onto the ground endlessly as he stood there like a statue, completely aware of his surroundings. All he thought of was his precious Sydney. His beloved Sydney. His lost Sydney.

Suddenly, Vaughn experienced an unusual feeling that he was watching himself standing there crying, yet he was not involved with the situation. It was as if his mind had parted himself, and now he was merely a spectator.

He watched himself bombard towards Sydney's apartment, flinging his arms wildly at anyone who dared to get in his way.

"Stop!" he screamed at himself, but his efforts were in vain. This over- emotional Vaughn was out of his hands.

He watched Vaughn black Weiss' eye in horror, before finally breaking into the apartment.

Vaughn felt himself gain possession of his own body again. He looked at his surroundings. He was horrified. Oceans and oceans of ash surrounded him. There was no evidence of Sydney's existence- no bed, no photo frame (the one he gave her), no Alice in the Wonderland 1st edition, NOTHING. It was too much. He just gave in to his sorrow and broke down onto his knees, sobbing.

He cupped a handful of ash. "Are you Syd?" he found himself thinking.

Suddenly, a thought struck him. Sydney must be part of all this ash. She has to be!

"Sydney! Sydney!" he yelled, wading through the piles of ash. "Where are you?"

No response. He ignored Weiss' words about calming down and grabbed him by his collar forcefully instead.

"Get me some jars!" Vaughn demanded.

"No! Let me go!" Weiss yelled.

Vaughn softened his grip. "Please." he begged. "I need this. Syd means too much to me. You know that."

Weiss looked painfully into Vaughn's hungry eyes as he broke free. They scared him. It hurt him to see his best friend like that.

"OK." he whispered, looking away.

"Thank you." Vaughn sobbed, collapsing into a hug. "Thank you."

Weiss watched in horror as Vaughn crawled around frantically, filling every container with ash.

"Sydney." he murmured. "I'm coming to get you. I won't let you go. I just can't. cause that means I'll have to fall out of love with you first."

Weiss felt Vaughn floating farther and farther away from him. The truth was, Vaughn was quite unaware of anything except for the jars of ash. Weiss couldn't bear to see Vaughn in this broken state. When he drove Vaughn back home in his car filled with the jars of ash, he could see Vaughn holding onto them for dear life, talking to them, and occasionally kissing them.

As he continued this depressing drive, Weiss felt two tears splash simultaneously onto his hand. One was his own. the other was Vaughn's.
