She looked in the mirror, did she even like what she saw? Things had certainly

changed. Over the space of a year, thing had most definitely gone a different

way for Miranda Sanchez.

She sighed. School again, this place felt more and more pointless by the day.

Just full of fakes and sheep. It did her fucking head in.

The bus, her pet hate. She climbed on resenting every step.

"Lizzie." She nodded in the direction of a previous life.

"Miranda." Lizzie said, doing a crap job of hiding a smirk.

Miranda reached the back of the bus, her safe zone, she supposed.

The ride seemed endless, every car they passed, every person who laughed made

Miranda cringe.

School had changed. A lot. No best friends there to link arms with, no promise of some gossip, no swooning over a crush, no extra curricular activities, nothing to look forward to, no reason to be here. What there was instead was an empty void beside her and the short walk to behind the auditorium. Where she could be with people who would let her just get on with it and maybe throw a bit of weed in, if she was lucky.

"Sanchez." Said Tony, maybe more so her type of friend these days, handing her a crumpled packet of cheap cigarettes. She nodded in response taking a cigarette out.

"Light?" She said. Someone tossed a lighter over to her. "Cheers." She said to the

nameless face, and lit her first cigarette of the morning. She took a long drag. Another day, another cigarette, a different lifetime, a new chapter in her life.

Man how things had changed.
