*-I don't know much about the wedding ceremony; I apologize if the title of the man who married them and the specifics of the ceremony is incorrect.

Interruption

They stood in the church, Jane, Edward and the local curate.

Jane's arm was wrapped around his. He could only see darkness, but he could feel her next to him.

The curate began "I require and charge you both on the dreadful day of judgment…".

He held his breath, expecting Briggs to charge in again, protesting against his marriage to Jane.

"If there should be any impediment why they two should not wed…". He squeezed Jane's hand, to make sure that this was real and not just one of many dreams he had during the nightmarish months he spent alone at Ferndean, regretting the past and wondering if his beloved was still alive or dead.

He finally exhaled when he was asked "Do you, Edward Fairfax Rochester, marry this woman in sickness and health, for richer or for poorer, to honor and cherish, until death do you part?".

"I do".

"Do you, Jane Elizabeth Eyre, marry this man in sickness and health, for richer or for poorer, to honor and cherish, until death do you part?".

"I do".

"You, sir, are now a married man; you may kiss your bride".

He kissed Jane; she kissed him back. For the first time in nearly 20 years, his life was gaining a sense of normalcy.

The next morning, the sun rose through the windows of the master bedroom.

She slept against him; her dark hair tickled his nose. Their first night as a married couple was glorious, she never stopped surprising him.

He held up his left hand, he could feel the weight of the gold wedding band. Unlike his first marriage, this felt right.

"Edward, what time is it?" Jane asked, opening her eyes to the sunlight.

"Dawn, go back to sleep" her eyes closed as she returned to land of slumber.

He closed his eyes as she leaned into him in her sleep.

Nothing could interrupt his happiness now.
