Arwen has been waiting patiently for the return of Aragorn to Rivendell. These are her thoughts on the hobbits arriving in Rivendell, and her choice to give up her immortality, in one brief moment.

One Brief Moment

AN: This is my first attempt at writing fanfiction, and hopefully it isn't too bad!! Please R&R because I would love to know what I'm doing right and wrong to help improve my writing in the future!!:) I have used both the movies and the books when writing this, and I know that the timescale is going to be wrong, that is part of the story.

One Brief Moment

It had been three long hard years for both of us, but that was ending now for a short while. He was finally coming home. This was the day I had been waiting for, for three years.

However it was already evening, and he wasn't here yet. I knew he had a dangerous mission bringing the hobbits to Rivendell, but surely it wouldn't be that hard?

Then I heard the news. They had been chased by a number of the Black Riders and had fought upon the ancient hill of Weathertop. I knew one of the hobbits had been injured, but there was no news on Estel.

They were 3 days later than predicted, a week late…it was finally 2 weeks after they were supposed to arrive when Glofindel's horse Asfaloth arrived, carrying the injured hobbit. I helped care for the hobbit, Frodo son of Drogo. It helped pass the time and kept my mind from wandering about Estel.

5 days later, they were spotted. Glorfindel, Estel, and the remaining 3 hobbits. All I wanted to do was run into Estel's arms and kiss him, but I couldn't. No-one could know of our love, for I was an elf, and him a mortal. Even though I couldn't welcome him, it eased my heart to know he was alright. I showed the hobbits to their rooms, then I took them to see Frodo.

It was after the evening meal that we met on the bridge. We talked, about the past and our love, and I gave him my Evenstar Pendant. This finally sealed my doom, and made sure my choice to give up my immortality, the Life of the Elder. We kissed, and for a brief moment everything faded away, everything to do with the Ring and the War, and we were just Aragorn and Arwen, lost in one brief moment.
