Max's P.O.V.

I stared incredulously at the man that stood before me.

"W-what?" I stuttered.

"Fang," Jeb repeated. "Is my son."

I felt the blood drain from my face, I tried to swallow the lump in my throat and ignore hollow feeling that was growing in my chest.

I glanced at Fang. He looked so calm and sure. Fury bubbled inside of me. How could he not realise this was a trick? A sick twisted trick.

"That's impossible. You're lying." I accused.

A smirk played on Jeb's lips. I would have happily smacked it right off.

"Would you like to see the DNA results?"

My hands balled into fists at my sides. I pulled my arm back, ready to strike, but instead of my fist colliding with Jeb's face, I noticed a strong yet gentle grip on my arm. I turned round and gasped at Fang's face just inches from my own. His usually shielded dark eyes were flooded with emotions, confusion showed strongest. He spoke softly, the way he only spoke with me.

"He is my father, Max." His hands found my own.

"I thought you'd be happy for me? Why are you acting like this?"

How was I supposed to answer him? I couldn't. He'd hate me.

"Because she's in love with you." Jeb answered. His voice was sympathetic and slightly mocking. I couldn't meet Fang's eyes. He was just staring at me. I ignored Jeb's last comment.

"You're a liar," I spat at him. I glanced at Fang.

"He's not you're father. It's a trick!" I whirled on Jeb.

"He's not your son! You're just trying to get us back into the school!" My voice cracked and the tears that had been threatening to fall spilled over. I internally kicked myself for crying in front of them.
"Max, stop." Fang's voice was hard. "Jeb is my father." Concern flared in his eyes, seeing my tears.

"Why are you being like this?"

He wiped the tears from my cheeks and waited for my response. Before I could, Jeb stepped in.

"Max hasn't been totally honest with you, Fang. She knows who her father is, she's known for a while now."

Fang looked at me. I stared at the floor.

"You know who he is? Why didn't you tell me?" he glanced at Jeb.

"I don't understand. What does this have to do with why she's so upset?"

Fang took my hand. His voice was worried.

"Max?"

Jeb walked over and put a hand on my shoulder, I prepared myself for what he was going to say. Goodbye, Fang. You'll hate me forever.

"Fang," Jeb's tone held a cruel delight. "Meet your sister, Maximum."
