"Isn't it pretty funny, Operator? All that time we spent in the station, I told you everything about myself, but I still don't even know your name," Rio said with a slight, painful smile as if with each word she was fighting something back. "I guess this is it though. Our adventure's over... in the end we didn't save anyone. I let them all down... you more than any of them though. I let Naomi die... I told you I would find her and rescue you two, but I was too late. She was so lucky to have you..." She felt a tear nearly escape her eye and quickly blinked it away, placing her hand on his gently. "I was too... Thank you..."

She wondered what the bedridden man's response could be, what he would say to her. Would he be sarcastic, like he was in the hotel? Or maybe he'd be gentle, stumble over his words half from the poison and half out of modesty. He didn't speak, though. He lay there, his eyes closed softly. His expression was peaceful, so much so that she never would have guessed had she not been alongside him that he had gone through so many horrors and was fighting away the venom of a monster. "I never thought it would be possible for me to feel for anyone anymore. My heart is just a piece of stone... so worthless, pathetic. But... Operator, I think... I think I love you."

He still said nothing, did nothing. It was as though she wasn't even there. She wished that he would reach up and wipe away the tears on her face that dripped down onto his still forehead, or whisper to her soothingly. She wished he would open his eyes and comfort her. She wished that he would wake up from the deathly slumber he lay in.

But she knew he wouldn't, that he couldn't. She couldn't bear to see him any longer, to see the faces of everyone else that cared about him, to see him. "I... I'm so sorry..." That hand of his, so cold like he had been laying in the snow... That hand was her last memory of his touch, that stupid mien the last she would see of him. "I really didn't save anyone... I barely knew you, but... why do I feel so alone?"

/AN. Yeah... I was bored :3 And I wanted to try out a Lifeline story. And... Tragedy came to mind for some reason. I know it's not the best... That and probably no one will actually understand it because Lifeline's such an obscure game. XD But you all should play it because it's awesome.
