Fishing

"You have to hook your claws around the fish like this, Minnowpaw."

Minnowpaw, a Riverclan apprentice, groaned as she attempted to do the move that her mentor, Duskfang, was currently trying to teach her. "It's so hard!"

Duskfang sighed. "Just wait by the lake, and when a fish comes by, grab it."

"But they're so slippery!" Minnowpaw wailed.

Duskfang glared at her apprentice. "Minnowpaw. You're a Riverclan cat. Riverclan cats eat fish. To eat a fish, you have to catch one. And if you don't catch one, not only will Riverclan have one less fish, you'll fail your assessment."

Minnowpaw stared glumly at the water. "Then I'll never become a warrior."

"Minnowpaw, all you have to do is catch a fish! One fish!"

"I can't!" wailed Minnowpaw. "I'm no good at catching fish!"

Duskfang tried teaching Minnowpaw again. "Alright Minnowpaw. Just wait until-"

"FISH!"

Minnowpaw plunged her claws into the lake, grabbing for the faint, shadowy figure darting around the leaves floating on the surface of the water. She managed to brush against it. Curling her claws, she finally managed to hook her claws around the fish. She attempted to pull it up, but that was before she noticed how big it was.

"Whoa!"

Minnowpaw shrieked as the huge fish yanked her into the water. Her head went under, and she tried screeching for help.

The fish was dragging her further down. Minnowpaw pulled up, and managed to get her head above the surface of the water. "H-help!" she stuttered.

The fish started to drag her down, but Minnowpaw gritted her teeth and yanked the fish up. It fell with a plop on the shore. Minnowpaw could barely hold down the wriggling fish before she bit it on its neck.

"Great job!" praised Duskfang.

"Thanks for the help," said Minnowpaw sarcastically.

Duskfang shrugged.

Minnowpaw proudly examined her catch. It was a fine fish, fat and big, and would feed all the queens, elders, and kits.

Minnowpaw purred. "I finally learned how to fish!"
