— Gratitude —
There were times when she hated her.
'Did you feel that too?' She asked.
Mai looked at her.
'Yes.'
'This whole place reeks of blood.' She muttered.
'Yes.' Mai replied.
She hated her because she stole her spotlight.
She hated her because her presence was no longer a special one.
She would never listen to the rational part of her being that asked her to be grateful, for there was someone who experienced the same thing as her. For there was someone who could understand her.
There were times when she absolutely loathed her presence.
The bright sunny outfits, the bright smiles — she hated them all. She had the air of a girl, frolicking about in such short skirts.
Holding the pale thermos flask in her hand, Mai gazed at Naru with pink-dusted cheeks.
She hated Mai because she made her feel childish.
She made her feel jealous.
So envious.
She made her feel unrefined.
Masako snatched the thermos flask from Mai's hands. Mai stared at her, surprised by the sudden action.
'Why are you always the one making tea for Naru?' She spat out.
Mai narrowed her eyes at her.
'What! I'm his assistant. I'm okay with making tea for him all the time.'
Masako knew that this petty battle would last no longer than a few minutes. While the tug of war was ongoing, it was evident that Mai had more strength stored in her than Masako could ever have. Mai tumbled back. Clutching the thermos flask in her hand, she tried to steady herself.
Mai flashed her a victorious smile.
For some unknown reason, Masako smiled back.
The smile however went unnoticed by the others as they were busy cheering for Mai.
Masako shook her head softly.
There were times when she absolutely hated her, but there were times when she felt grateful.
Mai was probably the only reason why she felt so young.
Mai was probably the only reason why she found peace in being normal.
Mai was probably the only reason why she could be jealous and immature.
Masako was eternally grateful for it.
A/N: Tell me how you feel about it!
