Hello! So, this is my first Torchwood story - a one-shot of humour. Once I got this image in my head, it was never really going to go away, so even if I don't do much with the team, I thought I'd better write it. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Torchwood. For once, a surprising statement.
Ianto stirred slightly in his sleep. Slowly, he came to, only to wish he'd stayed in his dreams as he realised what had awoken him. He checked his clock to read 5:58; well, at least he'd had a quiet night up to this point. Irritably, he picked up his ringing phone.
"Jack? This had better be an emergency."
"Errr... kinda," came the uncertain voice of Captain Jack. Ianto groaned and went to hang up. "No, no, no, wait!" Ianto placed the receiver back to his ear. "Ianto, I really need you."
"Not cutting it, Jack," replied Ianto.
"No, not like that. I mean I need your help." Ianto breathed in a deep breath. "Really need your help. Can you come in?"
"'d be there in a couple of hours anyway and this doesn't seem like rift work!" Ianto sighed. "Look, I'll be there soon, but if this isn't actually an emergency – and I mean a real one – I'm not making you coffee for a week."
"You can't believe how relieved I am right now. Thanks."
Ianto hung up a little confused; it wasn't like Jack to sound so desperate. Maybe this was an emergency of a non-rift kind, but then surely he'd have said. Still, Ianto got up and, slowly, he'd admit, got ready for work. At least he'd beat the traffic.
Ianto slipped into the tourist office drowsily. There was no sign of Jack, but somehow that wasn't surprising. Hanging up his coat, while noticing the others weren't there, he made his way down to the main Hub.
The alarms were grating at this time of day and Ianto wasn't pleased to see no sign of Jack here either. Surely, he couldn't be in his office if...
"Ianto!" A disembodied voice filled the Hub. Ianto looked around, but couldn't locate the voice. He huffed and fought the urge to tap his foot. "Ianto! Up here!"
Ianto lifted his gaze, only for it to finally land upon Jack, who was sitting on the 'magic lift', legs dangling over the edge. The slab sat about fifteen feet off the ground, but even at this distance, Ianto could see Jack's embarrassment.
"You're stuck," stated Ianto, smirking.
"Yeah," admitted Jack, curtly. "Little help here." Ianto laughed. "Please... I only went out for... a morning walk."
"You mean you went to spy on drunken people failing to go home," corrected Ianto.
"Ok, yes, but I really could do with some help." Ianto walked across the Hub. "Where are you going?" Ianto stopped and looked up again.
"To get you a ladder. Unless you have a better idea."
"Oh right, yeah. Hurry! I don't want Owen seeing me up here." Ianto smirked again. "What?"
"You woke me up; I'm getting a camera too."
