No Good Deed
"Ughhh, must we go? Fiyero and I were supposed to go on a date today!" moaned Galinda, who was in the middle of giving herself a manicure. She turned to her roommate, Elphaba, who was gathering the rest of the brochures for the incoming Shiz University class.
"Galinda, Madame Morrible said we'll both get extra credit if we volunteer to give tours to the incoming students. And we both know that you could use a little boost in your linguification grade."
"I know, I know…ughh, why must sorcery be so confusifying?" she whined.
"Oh stop complaining! Now let's go, we have to go greet the students at The Wizard Statue, which is quite a walk away."
Blowing her nails, Galinda grabs her purse and jacket, scurrying after Elphaba.
"If only there was a spell for drying nails…" she mumbles.
Madame Morrible gives her 'Welcome to Shiz University' speech, and introduces the two girls to their tour group. The students are horrified by Elphaba, but go on with the tour as planned.
"That's the history building over there." Says Galinda "Where we, uhm, study history…and stuff…" she looks to Elphaba in hopes of some assistance.
"Yes, you'll learn about how Oz came to be; from war, to the Great Drought, to the Wizard's arrival, and the construction of the Emerald City and the Yellow Brick Road."
The group stands there, unamused, when a student asks Galinda if there is anything fun about the university.
"Well, the courses are rigorous and demanderating, but Shiz has its perks."
"Like…"
"Well, there's the…Oz Dust Ballroom!"
"Huh?"
"The most swankified place in town! Duhhh!"
"Galinda!" Elphaba chimes in. "This is an academic tour! We have to show them the best classes Shiz has to offer!"
"Oh, Elphie; don't you want to show them how much fun Shiz is?"
"Academics can be fun…" Elphaba mumbles.
"Idea!" Galinda replies. "Okay, if you want to see all the activities that are non-academic, come with me. If not, go with Elphie."
Of course, the entire group runs off with Galinda. Elphaba stands there; rolling her eyes and is very annoyed. She decides to go after Galinda, and to make sure she doesn't get into trouble.
Galinda is in the Oz Dust Boutique with the girls in the group when Elphaba reaches them.
"Oh this color's lovely on you!" Galinda says to a short, blonde girl.
Elphaba walks up to Galinda, ripping the dress out of her hands.
"GALINDA! What in Oz are you doing?"
"ELPHIE! I was just helping them pick out ball gowns! They love the tour. See? Look at those guys dancing with those girls…isn't it great? Now c'mon Elphie, try this dress on! After all, pink goes good with green."
"Galinda, this isn't a shopping spree! This is an educational tour! We have no time for dilly-dallying. Madame Morrible expects us to be back at the statue in 15 minutes."
"What? She never said that."
"Yes, she did. You just weren't paying attention."
"Oh…"
"Yeah, so let's go!"
The two friends and their group arrive back at the Wizard statue.
"Well, I trust you young ladies had a thrillifying day." Madame Morrible says with a gentle smile.
Galinda and (some-what) Elphaba are thanked by the students, and start to head back to their dorm.
"Oh Elphie, wasn't today wonderful? I think those students had a good time!"
"Yeah, because you broke the rules to make sure of it…" she mumbles.
"What?"
"Oh, nothing; and I thought you were dreading this. I basically had to force you to come."
"Well, who knew I would have so much fun? You know Elphie, I like this whole 'good deed' thing. AND it doesn't have to be just for academics…"
Elphaba rolled her eyes, dreading yet another makeover from her perky roommate.
"You are truly 'Galinda the Good'." She says jokingly.
They both giggle and head back to their dorm for the day.
