A Warriors Son Chapter Two
"Luke!..Luke?" "Coming mom!" Luke called. His mother, Windred, stood at the doorway of the Church. "Dinner time" she said. "Sayanas family made dinner tonight." Each night, a different family cooked dinner. Sayana was a pretty, young, Church Mouse, and her family was the best cooks in Mossflower. Luke's grandfather was already seated at the long row of tables. Next to him sat Arcota, Luke's father. He looked up as the mice entered the dimly light room. "Come sit by me, my son." He said, is voice soft and gentle. Luke obeyed, and as he sat, Martin spoke. "your father and I have a gift for ye, young Mouse. He nodded at Arcota, who withdrew a long wooden sword from his belt." Yore father and I made it. After dinner, you can join Meeka and Janta in the sword fights. This sword is a better sword than yore old 'un anyway." Every night, after dinner, the younger woodlanders would go outside and have a pretend war. Meeka and Janta, his closest friends, would pretend that they were Arcota and Martain, and Luke was Argoo. The trio was a mischievous group that were in charge of all the young'uns. They led them off on mad adventures, and altough they were not the oldest, they were easily the best to lead, and since Luke was the oldest of the trio, he was the ultimate leader, and Meeka and Janta were his body guards. Luke's old sword had snapped in half a few moons ago, and he admired his new one. The polished surface shown brightly off the oak surface. The handle was shaped like a skull and made from the bone of a rat, like the one Argoo wore in his belt. When he looked up from the sword, he found that Coll and Cardo were serving. The young mice, older than Luke by three months, served the youngsters dandelion and burdock fizz with otter and hot root soup and a small oat scone. When the meal began, Luke found the two twins, Meka and Janta to his left, and Sayana, Jomana, and Arneta across from him. The three ringleaders of the littleuns blushed. They were across the table from the three prettiest mice in the Church, the three who always played the brave princesses in the games, and the three who were always rescued by the ringleaders. The six mice always worked as a team, and they were the six most important characters of every game. Every beast knew that it was always meeka who rescued Jomana, Luke Sayana, and Janta Arneta. It always would be. After a wonderful dinner, the youngsters wandered off to dress for the sword fights. Luke came back dressed finely in a Moss green jerkin, with Meeka and Janta clad in tunics of silver and gold. The trio took sides. They faced each other and at the raise f each captain's sword, littleuns crawled out from all over. Squirrels swung from the leafy canopy overhead, otters emerged from the river, hedgehogs and voles piled out from the Church, moles appeared in clouds of soil, and badgers leapt over bushes to join their sides. These were the crews of the captains and each creature carried an assortment of weapons, javelins, swords, slings, and were dressed in rags, making the trio stand out. Pirate type creatures however, surrounded three beautifully dressed mice on Luke's side. These of coarse were Sayana, Jomana, and Arneta. Luke set the story line in a loud voice. Meeka and Janta would of coarse Martin and Arcota, with a band of runaways from Luke's hoard. They were trying to save three beautiful princesses. Then, the fight began. Wood meet, like swords clashing, dull sticks with feather ends flew, like squirrel arrows, long rods were thrust and dodged like otter javelins, and the roar of the creatures rose through Mossflower, a dead giveaway to anyone who might be an enemy.
