Scott didn't know how he got lucky enough to be with someone like Courtney. She's smart, gorgeous and always tried to do the right thing, no matter the cost.
Meanwhile he was some dirt farmer, he wouldn't talk this low of himself to Courtney, she'd think he was insecure. And she'd be right, as she always is.
But really, he didn't deserve her, but she seems happy with him, so he's not letting go of being with, quite possibly, the greatest girl in his life.
He's also been told he's somewhat a lot better than her last ex, Duncan. And for once he'd agree, no sane person would ever cheat on someone as amazing as Courtney.
That's also why he never brings him up, he's not needed in any conversation they have. Although, he sometimes wonder if Duncan regrets it. Cheating on Courtney.
And for some goth chick, he still doesn't really now what "goth" is. But asking Courtney might make her mad, so he won't bring it up anytime soon.
He wonders if Duncan knows how she always tries to understand everything. He wonders if Duncan used to see how she used to look at him. He wonders if Duncan knows how much she loved him.
But he won't ask him or Courtney. It isn't his place. He'll stick to loving Courtney.
Duncan wonders if Scott realizes how lucky he is. To have a girl like Courtney be with him. Probably, but Duncan's curious.
His curiosity always fucked things up for him; the time he nearly blew up his school during the science fair, breaking into his dad's office at work, and cheating on Courtney. The last who left big impacts on him.
His dad never forgave him, but once he brought Courtney over when they were together, he was more nicer(ish). Probably because his parents loved how Courtney kept him in check.
He also loved it, too.
But Duncan knew she warmed up to the real him after they got together. It was nice, until he fucked up.
Courtney was the only girl he let see the real him. And he didn't regret it, showing her. No, he regretted hurting her, and on T.V. no less.
But he sees her look at Scott and wonders if she ever looked at him. Wait, no, he's watched the episodes of them and yes, he can confirm she used to look at him like that.
He wonders if Scott knows the real Courtney. The girl who's terrified of Jell-O and would kick you in the groin for money. He most likely does, he's probably nevew experienced either of them, but he knows.
He wonders if Scott would always be there for her. He better, even if he didn't know her. He wonders if Scott has seen her in that wedding gown.
It's a gift, to just know what Courtney is like. It's why he loves her.
But he lost that.
