"dry your tears, katyusha, i'm here."

It was alright to cry, January has came and it has not been kind, as it pairs up with Time and Mother Nature to destroy human hearts once again. The way those sensitive creatures let down their guard and let their most precious organ crack lightly as red strings- thin as the line between peace and war- dig into the flesh, and perhaps it hurt and made them scream in agony, but anything to preserve sadness, is that not correct? And maybe when there is finally a being that does not want to love or suffer heartbreak, the world will become angry and the earth suddenly becomes a mess of ice and hatred, and the only way to stop it is to just let Aphrodite and Ares do their magic, as always.

"Oh, Lilith... I am so, so glad you're here." She sobbed, as the smaller girl just sighs and lifts a hand- pale, like the milky water after a relaxing bath scented with lavender oil and birthday cake bath bombs- to wipe away the tears glistening like the glass window on a wonderful Saturday morning, as the sun hits the grass just right, and dew reflects off of it, as the sunflowers waver in the pure beauty that Venus cannot compare to.

"Darling, it hurts to see you like this." As much as Lilith would like to pull away, she cannot, and only moves closer. The blood covering her beloved reminds her too much of that one romantic night at the top of the Ferris Wheel, standing up with a stuffed teddy bear on her seat as they held hands, coming in for a caramel-flavored kiss, cherry lipstick and all, with a fallen rose bouquet and the thorns still attached.

"I don't deserve somebody like you." And those words hurt Lilith too much, a song of a lover's laugh that ended too soon, and the only thing on her mind now was that she refused to let those be Katyusha's last words. And, oh, my lovely, do you know how important you are to me?

"Sweetheart, you deserve all the love in the world." And all of the sudden, she was the one sobbing, she wasn't supposed to cry, she was supposed to stay strong for Katyusha, she was supposed to be the strong shield, but sometimes when swords don't work, the enemy will use guns, and Lilith never thought love would be the type to kiss the bullet then-

"Katyusha?" Her voice was weak.

Bump.

Bump.

...

And so, this is the ending to their love story. But little Natalia will complain that all stories are supposed to have a happy ending, and the happiness always falls through her little hands, as she desperately tries to grab onto it, just as Katyusha tried to with her own life, but Lily just smiles, a smile that isn't quite happy, nor sad, yet it is not forced or devoid of meaning.

"Sometimes, stories don't have happy endings."

"I know, but you can pretend."

I tried, I really did.
