Summary: Nico's submarine shuts down and a mermaid comes and helps him

My submission to the 1-16st January 2019 Prompts for the Camp Half-Blood Forums

Nico cursed under his breath as he kicked the wall of his submarine.

He was on an underwater trip with Reyna and Coach Hedge to try to get to Poseidon's palace because he said needed help that needed demigods with adult supervision. But unfortunately, their submarine just had to shut down. Nico was so sure he was close to the palace.

"Great, now what are we supposed to do?" Nico muttered angrily under his breath, it would have been so much easier if Poseidon was answering the demigods right now.

"We try to get the submarine working," Reyna said bluntly sitting down.

"No duh Sherlock, but how are we going to do that?"

"We pray and offer things to Poseidon and hope for the best?" Reyna stated but sounded more like she was asking a question.

"Great plan." The younger boy muttered sarcastically.

"Hey! It's the only plan we got, so get praying and offering to the altar."

"But he isn't answering us!" Nico raised his voice.

"Aren't you grumpy today." Coach Hedge entered the control room. Nico was tired and hungry, of course, he would be grumpy! Sometimes he wished he wasn't on this quest.

"I'm just going to lay down, or at least try to contact someone." The boy shoved Coach Hedge out of the doorway and walked out of the room.

Nico went into the washroom, grabbing a drachma from his pocket, and turning the shower on.

He turned on a flashlight, creating a rainbow. Nico threw his drachma in, which disappeared into the rainbow.

"Annabeth Chase, Camp Half-Blood."

The mist formed some sort of image, revealing Annabeth in her cabin reading a book.

"Annabeth!" Nico raised his voice, startling her and making her yelp in surprise and dropping her book.

"Nico! How's your quest going?" Annabeth picked up her book and put it aside waiting for what Nico was going to tell her.

"About that… Our submarine shut down…"

"What? How did that happen?!" The older girl said alarmed.

"We don't really know!"

"Well can you try to-"

"Wait one sec," Nico cut her off as he saw something in the window. He looked around the water as best he could from the small window before he saw a blue tail.

"Annabeth I have to go…"

"Nico? Nico? Nico what's happen-" Nico waved his hand through the mist, cutting Annabeth off again, before going back to the window.

That's when he saw a lean boy who looked about 12 years old, in the dark waters. He had messy black hair, which looked almost blue, sea green eyes and he looked quite tan. But the weirdest part of it was that his bottom half was a dark blue tail that lit up the waters around him.

Now Nico would've said that it was a siren and that he shouldn't get near him, but Nico had a different feeling about the boy. He looked too innocent to be drowning people as the boy smiled and waved to him. Nico hesitantly waved back.

Due to the thick walls that you could hear through perfectly, Nico could hear him laugh and swim around before he stopped in front of the window Nico was looking out of.

"Do you need help?" The boy spoke, which kind of freak Nico out.

"You're a Mermaid… aren't you… not a siren…" Nico stuttered with a blush forming.

"No, I am not a mermaid, I am a kangaroo." The boy rolled his eyes, "And I am not one of those weird Sirens who would think that?"

"Do you need help or what?"

"Yeah, I guess… Did Poseidon send you?" Nico was hoping that Poseidon did send the boy to help them, not just a random stranger finding them here.

"Poseidon? My dad? No… Why would you think that? What happened? You're a demigod… Why are you out in the sea? Is my dad in trouble? Oh, it's probably my fault isn-" The boy rambled on, starting to become anxious.

"Poseidon has another son? And yes I am a demigod, I'm out in the sea with my friends because your dad is in trouble, and who knows whose fault it is, it probably isn't yours" Nico hoped that the last part would calm him down a little.

"Oh okay… I should really start helping you right now…"

"Oh! Yeah right…" Nico had just forgotten that his submarine was broken.

"After I help you, promise to pretend that you never saw me. Got it?"

"Got it."

Nico watch as the mermaid place his hand on the submarine and closed his eyes. What fascinated Nico most was when the boy's hands started to glow blue as he muttered words.

After a few minutes, the boy's eyes opened and he gave Nico a thumbs up before waving goodbye and swimming away, leaving Nico's sight.

"Nico! The systems back up!" The son of Hades heard his friend Reyna say from the Control room.

"Coming!" Nico yelled back, he couldn't believe it. "So he really did do it huh." He whispered to himself, before silently thanking the mysterious boy who was apparently a son of Poseidon.

He turned around walking away to the control room in relief.
