Lights
It had been a long day. Amy slid out of her seat and flew out the door. Then she stopped. "Kitty!" Katherine Menses stood there, her neon purple tote almost glowing in the twilight. And a good thing it was too, because just then, all of the lights went out.
"Aw, darn. Power cut." Amy said.
"I know. Those are so annoying."
"Is your mom picking us up?"
"Yeah, but still hurry up cuz I've got a date with the donut stand!"
Amy laughed. "Ok, go see your 'date'. Meet me in the middle when you're finished."
"Kay!" And Katherine rushed off.
Chuckling, Amy climbed down the spiral staircase in the building, her heels clicking against the cold marble. Then, her phone began to ring. The display read: Unknown Number. That's weird. Amy thought. She cleared her throat and picked up. "Hello?"
"Hey." The voice was so familiar, but she couldn't place it. It was a boy's voice though.
"Who is this?"
"Can't place it?"
"Obviously.."
"Well, i'm not going to tell you! You have to find out."
Who gave you my number?"
"She told me not to tell."
"Oh." An awkward silence fell. "At least give me a hint as to who you are."
"Okay. You know me. You can see me from where you are."
Amy looked around. She saw Mason making out with Reya, Ian Kabra and Evan Tolliver talking on their cell phones and a group of about 5 boys standing and staring at her.
"Are you in that group?"
"Heck no."
Then it clicked. There was a very, very, very subtle British accent in that voice. It was Ian! She hid her discovery though.
"Why did you call anyway?"
"Since you don't know who I am, I'll tell you. I like you. Like a lot. So, I am going to give you a dare. Will you take it?"
"Sure. Name it."
"I dare you to kiss me."
Then Amy started to laugh. And laugh. Then she stopped and laughed some more. "You really fell for that one, Ian!"
"How'd you know it was me?"
"It was kind of obvious actually.."
"Of course. I mean, who was I kidding? No one could ever not recognize a Kabra." There was the slightest hint of disappointment in his voice though.
"I'm going to hang up now, and walk over so I don't waste anymore minutes."
"I wouldn't call them wasted..." With a click, the line disconnected.
Amy slid the phone into her tote and made her way over to where Ian was standing, next to Evan.
"Shove off, Evan." said Ian harshly, before she came. That wasn't needed as his girlfriend had just passed by.
"Hey." Ian said smoothly.
"Hey." After 6 years, raised concrete and 3 inch heels, they were finally eye to eye.
"Took heels, did it?"
"Yes, yes it did."
He laughed.
"So what now?" asked Amy.
"Now, this." And he leaned forward and surprised her with a kiss. And the lights flickered back on.
