A/N: Hey welcome to my new story 'The Truth of Fatherhood'. Once again, my love for Antauri/Chiro father/son bond has taken over.

Just a quick note, what I found most interesting about the show is does not explain anything about Chiro's family or nothing. Obviously he is an orphan of some kind, but still- at the end of the day he is still just a kid. Does the law still abide to Chiro despite his position on thing?

Let's find out! Sit back and enjoy.

Chapter 1

Not Yet Legal

The sky was as grey as the stone granite that surfaced Shuggazoom's walk ways. A breeze as crisp as a winter's morning went rushing past the bundled up citizens. The people of Shuggazoom hurried from their homes to go to work, the nippy February morning was not being kind to the hard working folks. It was all a rush, kids getting hurried to school, parents hoofing it to work, and cars honking at each other in early morning traffic.

The whole morning was nothing but a mess. Without the sun peeking through the dark grey skies, the day showed no signs of weather improvement.

Black shoes stomped through the puddles as a thin silhouette casted down the sidewalk. Chiro shuffled his way through the streets with both hands jammed in his pockets. His body was layered in a dark brown Corduroy jacket. He shivered from the goose bumps the wind gave him as he turned his head to protect his face from the air.

His shoulders shuttered as his teeth chattered. He took a deep breath in and exhaled hot breath over his bare fingers. 'Why didn't I listen to Antauri when he told me to grab the gloves?' the sixteen year old thought to himself. He rubbed his hands together to build up heat friction to warm his skin.

He rushed faster across the cross-walk, dodging oncoming hover cars. Once he danced his way out of traffic, his blue face lit up with joy. Mr. Gackslapper's burger shot reflected in his iris as he sighed in relief, "Bout time I made it…" he grumbled half-heartedly as he hobbled to the door.

Shoving his shoulder against the glass, the loud squeak of plush toy caught his attention, halting him from opening the door. He smiled as he looked upon the red glasses looking back at him. "Well hello Chiro, it is sure glad to see you isn't Mr. Cheepers?" an older man carrying an over-grown blue penguin toy asked with delight.

"Hey Ned, how have you been?" Chiro greeted the older citizen.

Ned smiled as he clutched his prized possession, causing the bird to squeak out-loud. "Oh we have been fine, thanks to you and the monkey team for your services," he shivered a little, "Though it's a shame your robot can't change the weather."

Chiro shrugged as he turned away from the door to give the man his full attention. "Well there are just something's heroes can't fight, and that's Mother Nature," he laughed as the cold wind almost blew his hat off.

Ned pushed his glasses up against his eyes to see the boy better, "That's true." Then he stopped and smiled, "Speaking of which, rumor has it that today is your birthday. That true?" he grinned out his question.

Chiro shrugged his slim shoulders, "Well I don't know how the city found out. But yes, today is my birthday, well… technically tonight it is."

"How old are you going to be?"

Chiro smiled, "Going to be sixteen!" he laughed as he rubbed his neck. "Hard to believe that I was only thirteen when I became part of the monkey team. So much has changed since that day, I will never forget it."

Ned smiled as he laughed along with the boy, "Three years you have done the city a great service. I can't begin to tell you how grateful we all are, but I guess I can settle with saying happy birthday for now."

Chiro laid a hand on his shoulder, "Just seeing you all smile for the day is good enough for me." He turned around, "Thank you, and have a nice day yourself. Try and keep warm," Chiro waved the small man goodbye as he pushed his way into the burger joint.

Once inside, Chiro popped his orange umbrella down and tucked it under his arm. He removed his damp hat and shook his wet head dry. His long raven black hair flew freely as it gracefully fell back down between his shoulder blades. He ran his fingers through his silky hair, his side burns were also long and thick.

Humming to himself, he sloshed his wet shoes across the room and to the counter. "Hey Mr. Gackslapper!" he greeted.

The heavy set man scratched his whiskery chin as he grinned, his two buck-teeth shining in the light. "Ah hello Chiro! Good timing, I had just gotten your take out order cooked up and ready to go."

Chiro smiled as the older man dug around in a cabinet for a moment before pulling out six take-out orders. He wrapped the burgers up in thin plastic baggies and handed them to the young hero, "I have to guess, Antauri is still the only one who eats only veggies eh?" He chuckled.

Chiro shrugged, stifling a laugh at the mention of the mysterious silver simian. "Despite his wisdom that is as vast as the cosmos, he is such a picky eater, it's not even funny," he laughed at a past memory of Antauri refusing to touch any editable substance that was not plant based. Even fully mechanical he still only ate plants.

Before Chiro could leave with his order, he stopped and noticed a few drinks and adult movies sitting up in the window. Blinking, he set the bags down and moved closer to investigate. As he picked one bottle up, he turned back over to the store owner. "Mr. Gackslapper, how much are these?" he smiled, "These look tasty, some kind of punch or something?"

The man internally laughed as he shook his head, "Sorry Chiro, but you can't buy those drinks. Also they are not punch," he smiled good naturedly at the sour look the young hero gave him.

Chiro put down the bottle filled with blue liquids as he retreated back to the counter. "What? Why can't I buy them?"

Mr. Gackslapper gave him a sad smile, "Well that's the newest product I have been sailing, so I am not surprised you don't recognize it. But its liquor Chiro, and the law says you have to be twenty-one to drink."

Chiro blinked, he gagged at the sight and shook his head. "Well I don't drink, so it matters little to me," then he paused, thinking longer. "But why do I have to be twenty-one? I mean I am old enough to protect the city and stuff, I dive head first into life threatening battles all the time. Why couldn't I purchase a single drink?"

Gackslapper blinked at the perplexed boy, he sighed as he scratched his neck. "Well you do have a point Chiro, you are very mature for doing what you do. But at the end of the day, you are still a kid by law. And by law, you are not of legal age to do some of the things only adults can do."

Frowning at the words, the boy sighed and decided to drop the subject. "Well it's okay, no big deal. Thanks for the burgers though! I will be sure to let the team know you said hello."

The two waved goodbye as Chiro politely departed from the store. He popped his umbrella over his head and shuffled through the damp streets, light water drops pinging against his face. But he failed to notice it, his mind was bombarded with the conversation that had happened previously, regarding his age.

He never liked being viewed as rash just because of his age. He wanted people to take him seriously, especially with him defeating Skeleton King and all. So why would his age still keep him from certain things?

Chiro shook his head, pushing the thoughts back into the depths of his brain. He was being irrational, a trait he had been trying to break since day one. These mixed feelings arising just because he was too young to do something? It sounded morally ridiculous when he thought of it.

So putting a smile back on his face, he decided to forget about it. He became aware of his surroundings again and was reminded of the weather when a sharp chill ran down his spine. He shivered as he decided to pick up the pace. Racing down the street and towards the park, where the super robot was lay in waiting for him.

~At the Super Robot~

"Flame Fist Fury!"

"Claw disruptor!"

The battle cries of two simians echoed through the halls of the super robot as a gold and silver blur clashed together. Sparks flew everywhere as power fists met swift claws, strength matching speed, aggression facing focus. The able bodies of Nova and Antauri flew around the room at lightning speed.

Antauri was faster, but his attacks were easily brushed aside when he went melee with the team's strongest warrior. He kept his eyes trained on her larger, broader frame as she bared her sharp teeth. Her eyes as red as lava as her battle-fist spiked into another ball of inferno.

He withdrew from another hand-to-hand attack and stepped back. Nova winded her arm up like a fan propeller and came in swinging.

Antauri grunted, feeling the heat centimeters from his optics. But he kept calm, moving his head left and right, his body side to side. Evading every single swing the stronger female took at him. He kept his eyes shut, using his knowledge of the power primate to guide him through the fiery storm of her savagery.

Nova was grunting and growling, swinging faster and faster, rage fueling her fire to defeat the second in command. She raised both her fists and slammed down, missing Antauri's whole body by a mere inch. Demolishing the spot on the floor where he had been standing seconds before.

Doing a couple back flips, he gracefully landed on his feet. Then he bent his body in a perfect 90 degree angle, feeling Nova's right hand brush past his snout. He straightened his body quick enough to dance around the gold charger.

After another hour, Nova finally started to run out of fuel. Steam burst from her mouth as her energy depleted. She sighed as she stopped chasing him and deactivated her fist, giving up on trying to catch the slippery simian.

She wiped the sweat from her forehead, "Ok ok Antauri, I throw in the towel, you win… again…"

The blue eyed monkey inwardly frowned at the hidden anger spoken in the word 'again'. He sighed as he sat lotus and resumed his normal spot of hovering in the air, "Nova you do not always have to rely on your furiousity when you are fighting. Like I told you a few years back, know that there is a time and a place to express your anger."

Gibson nodded as he eyed Nova's body, steam was still rising from the intense heat wave she had unleashed for a long period of time. "Antauri is right Nova, not conserving your energy in a battle could lead to lethal injuries. If you burn out before the battle is even done, what are you going to do then?"

The muscular gold monkey breathed in as she rubbed the boiling hot metal encasing her powerful arms, "I know I know. Controlling my anger is not exactly the easiest thing to do, especially when majority of the fighting is my responsibility…"

Sprx smirked as he leaned against the control panel, "Aw come on Nova don't be upset. Besides today is a day meant for smiles only, it is the kid's sixteenth birthday tonight after all."

Nova's boiling scowl cooled at the reminder, she let a small smile cross her lips. "Oh yea, almost forgot about that," she brushed her hands together. "So are we almost ready?"

Gibson nodded, "Yes our gifts are wrapped and hidden. Otto is currently monitoring Chiro's location, so he will let us know when to turn off the lights for the surprise."

Antauri smiled at the cake that laid in a metal box, hidden in his circular shaped chair. "Yes, today is a very special day to celebrate. Chiro has proven my beliefs in him being the chosen one, I have never been more proud of him."

"We all are…" Sprx stated gently as he placed a hand on the silver monkey's shoulder.

Antauri smiled as Nova also repeated Sprx's actions and took Antauri by the hand. "He has gone through so much, his heart is so pure- I almost forget that he is just sixteen."

Before the team could marvel in their good memories, a loud shout snapped them out of la-la land. Otto came cart wheeling into the room, miscalculating the trajectory of his flight and landed face first on the floor. He scrambled to his feet as he looked at his team's perplexed stares.

"Guys Chiro is almost here! Hurry get in your places!"

Everyone quickly rushed into their selected hiding places. Once everyone was in hidden, Antauri raised his hand, using his psychic powers to manually turn off the lights. Once the room was encased in black, Antauri hovered up to hide behind the air vent. He couldn't help but let a small smile cross his white snout as he felt a familiar presence closing in on them.

Footsteps got louder as an older adolescent's voice echoed behind the door. "Monkey team, I got the burgers!" he sneezed as he wiped his nose. He grumbled, having a strong gut feeling he caught a cold from running around in the cold weather.

"Guys, I am home!" he yelled out. But was surprised when he got no response, "Uh guys?" he answered hesitantly as he sat the burgers down on the floor. He approached the door and put his ear against it, perplexed when he heard nothing. He was for certain they'd be in the control room, for that's where they told him to bring the food when he returned.

He pulled the lever and opened the door, only to be greeted by blackness. He frowned, his stomach knotting up with fear as he stepped into the dark void that engulfed the robot's control room. As he made it half way into the room, he was suddenly blinded by a bright light and five multicolored balls of fur.

"Happy Birthday!" the team yelled loudly.

Chiro screamed like a girl and fell flat on his back. He saw stars when his noggin bounced off the metal, "Ouch…" he muttered as he rubbed the crown of his head.

But as soon as he realized what was going on, he sprung to his feet in shock. "Y-you guys remembered!?" he asked in awe as a big smile crossed his face. He brought his hand up to make sure the Band-Aids that lined his jaw and nose stayed in place.

Antauri smiled as Nova jumped up, "Oh how could we forget our own boy's birthday?" she flashed him a thumbs up.

Gibson smiled confidently, "Yes by living with us for most of your young adult life, social standards clearly state that the economics of a family group always stares that every individual should be familiar with the knowledge of remembering each one's birth and creation day."

Everyone just blinked at Gibson before Sprx chimed in, "Uh… what big brain means is that we're your family, so we would never forget your birthday."

Antauri stayed quiet as he watched the team crowd around the boy. They each handed Chiro their presents that he pushed to the side, only wanting to spend time with them first. They played games and laughed, the party lasted for a few hours before the clock chimed.

It was a few minutes away from midnight as the team laid asleep on the floor. Otto and Sprx had cake and ice-cream plastered all over their faces, both groaning from stomach aches. Gibson had nodded off an hour ago while leaning against snoozing Nova, who laid wrapped up in silly-string.

Chiro was the only one who laid awake, he stifled a yawn as he sat up. He smiled at the team, though as he started to silently clean around them, a hand caught him.

The gentle smile of his father figure soothed him as Chiro placed his hand over Antauri's. "Thanks for the party, I really appreciate it…" he gave a warm hearted smile.

Antauri brushed his hand over Chiro's long bangs that covered his left eye. "There is nothing to thank us for. Truly we should be thanking you, the love you show us is what has kept us all going strong through all these hard times. For that, I am extremely thankful to you… dear one."

Chiro smiled as he turned and gently put his hand over Antauri's metallic heart. Sending him a loving embrace as he sat on the floor with Antauri in his lap. The pair stayed silent for the longest time, not even detecting the single candle slowly burn out. Leaving them basking in the darkness, content in each other's warm embrace.
