"Ok, would you rather…uh…" We sat at our usual table playing the usual game, Would You Rather. It was Alexis' turn, and she chose Kate. "Would you rather… kiss Alex- male Alex- or kiss Mathew?"
"Oh gosh, um," Kate contemplated her choices until the rest of us started rushing her. "I don't know! Uh, Alex!"
The joking "aw"s and "ooh, someone's in love"s followed. "At least someone loves me." Alex sniffed. The game kept going, most of the questions were rather dirty.
"Hey, who wants to come with me to Mrs. Yeoman's room?" asked Liz. Alexis, Kate, and I got up and joined her, continuing the game with just the four of us. One of our other friends, Hannah, joined us as we made our way to our teacher's room.
Mrs. Yeoman's room had several kids in it, doing work or just chatting, but Mrs. Yeoman wasn't around. We went to the back room, hoping to find her there. It, too, was empty and we started to leave, but Alexis closed the door and it wouldn't open again.
"Oh my god Alexis, you're such an idiot!" Liz exclaimed.
"Shit, we're gonna get in trouble." I groaned.
"Sorry!" Alexis mumbled.
"Is it just me, or is it getting colder in her?" Kate asked. Now that she mentioned it, I noticed that the room was indeed growing steadily colder. Soon we were shivering.
Then, it went black for a few moments, and I couldn't see nor feel anything. Then, my senses returned, and I saw a pretty landscape that was somehow familiar. Kate, Hannah, Alexis, Liz and I were all in rags and sitting in prison cart pulled by a horse. I had a strange sense of deja vu.
I looked at my friends; they were different, all looked older. Kate looked as if a cat's skin had been stretched over a human body. With Hannah there was no big difference, same with Alexis, who was bigger and bulkier than before. Liz's ear were long and pointy, her face was more angular, and her eyes were completely black.
I wondered what I looked like, if I too looked older, if my eyes changed. We looked at each other in confusion. There was another cart in front of ours, holding two guys in rags, a man in expensive looking clothing, and a man in blue furs that were familiar. Several carts were in front ours as well, and the men controlling the horses wore familiar, armor was it? The deja vu was overwhelming.
The guy in the blue furs started speaking, and suddenly I understood. I was in Skyrim with my friends! I realised something had changed my friends races and age to fit Skyrim, and probably changed me too. Kate was a khajiit, Hannah was an imperial, Liz was a wood elf, and Alexis had to be a nord. Somehow I knew, even though I couldn't see myself, that I was a wood elf. Liz finally broke the shocked silence that had fallen over us.
"What. The. FUCK IS GOING ON?!" She cried. No one said anything, and I knew that I was the only one who, kind of, knew what was going on.
"Well," I began, "I'm pretty sure we're in Skyrim."
"What?" Everyone else said in unison and in almost the same tone. "That stupid game you always play?" Liz asked me. I nodded. "What the fuck? Why Skyrim? Why not SAO?" She looked at me accusingly.
"Why are my ears pointy, why have I got whiskers, why have I got claws, why do I have a tail, and why am I covered in fur?" Kate asked before I could reply to Liz.
"I'm not sure why, but something has changed our races and age to fit Skyrim, and you, Kate, happened to turn into a khajiit." At her confused look, I elaborated. "A cat person. Anyway, we're about to be taken to a town called Helgen, witness an execution," Everyone winced at that. "and get saved unintentionally by a dragon."
My friends stared at me. "So, what are the rest of us?" Alexis finally asked.
"Your a nord, Hannahs an imperial, Liz is a wood elf like me." I told them.
We reached Helgen, and my predictions came true. The nord in rags from the cart before us, not Lokir, was about to got next. I was pretty sure he was the Dragonborn.
The dragon came, chaos ensued, we climbed the tower and jumped into the inn, you know what happened. My friends were freaking out, partly because of the dragon attack, and partly because I was so calm about this. I have to admit, I was fairly terrified, but I refused to let it that show.
The guy who I thought was the Dragonborn stuck with us. His name was Ranor. We went with Hadvar, and after a few days we got to Whiterun. I had a longbow and imperial armor. Kate took the robes from the mage in the torture room and uses the spells Sparks and Flames. Alexis had an iron mace, used Flames and wore the armor as me, Hannah had the imperial captain's armor, like Liz, and she wielded a battle axe. Liz dual wielded iron swords. Everyone, including me, looked uncomfortable with their weapons and armor.
On the journey, I told the others about Skyrim. Hannah, Liz, and Alexis wanted to joined the companions, Kate wanted to go to the College of Winterhold, and I wanted to join the Thieves Guild. In the end we agreed to stick together, and seeing as the Companions got the most votes, we all decided to join them. Ranor left us to do other stuff.
In Helgen's Keep I found a large backpack, which I used to collect anything that looked valuable. I sold extra weapons and armor to Adrianne, then bought some arrows. We made our way to Jorrvaskr.
When the gang and I entered the legendary mead hall, two people were fighting, Njada and Athis. Most of the companions watched, but the servant Tilma "tsk"ed and swept the floor.
"Oh, it's you guys," said one of the nords that fought a giant with us. "Good to see you made it here." He smiled in a friendly way. "By the way, the names Farkas."
We introduced ourselves, and asked about joining. "Oh, you'll want to talk to Kodlak. He's usually downstairs in his quarters. He'll see if you have what it takes." We finally found Kodlak and his quarters. A man who looked a lot like Farkas was speaking with him about something I didn't care about. Liz rudely rushed in; I followed her knocking on the door in the process.
"CAN WE JOIN THE COMPANIONS?!" Liz yelled. Kodlak sized us up, looking into our hearts. I was last to go through his piercing gaze, he stared at me for a long time, longer than the others. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.
"Hm, yes, a certain strength of spirit-"
"Master, you aren't seriously considering letting them join us?" The other, younger, man said.
"I am nobodys master, and last I checked we had some empty beds for any with a fire in their heart." Kodlak's tone wasn't scolding, yet it somehow had the same effect.
Vilkas bowed his head. "Apologies. But perhaps this isn't the time. I've never even heard of this stranger.
"Sometimes the famous come to us, sometimes men and women come to seek their fame. It doesn't matter, what does is their heart." Kodlak sent a searching look my way. Did he not trust me? Did he think my heart wasn't pure enough or something?
"And their arm." Vilkas piped up, bringing me out of my musings.
"Yes, of course! Tell me, how are you in a fight? One at a time, and give me your name."
"I'm Liz, and I'm really confident in a fight."
"I'm Alexis, I can handle myself."
"I'm Kate, I still have much to learn…" Kate's voice was small and nervous.
"I'm Nancy, I can handle myself."
"All right. Vilkas, take these whelps out to the yard and see what they can do." Vilkas led us outside.
"The old man wants me to see what you can do, so lets do this. Liz, right? You first!" During the short fight, I turned to Kate.
"You may want to get your sword out, the Companions are kinda iffy about magic." Kate nodded and pulled out her sword as Vilkas finished fighting Liz. Kate went next, then Hannah, then Alexis, and finally me.
The big nord didn't look tired out at all, despite having fought four people. He lifted his great sword into a defensive position. It was clear that he wanted me to attack first, so I didn't. Finally, he struck. I've taken lessons in swordfighting, was never really good at it, but I was okay. I blocked his blow, but it sent me staggering. He was strong!
He moved forward to take another swing at me, I ducked and bashed him in the chest as hard as I could. He staggered back. "Well done," Vilkas commented lightly. "Next time won't be so easy, though."
