Chapter 1
The beat of the morning birds were ignored by the blonde hair girl, as she was busy getting ready while waiting for the morning report of Oha Asa from the radio. She hummed while brushing her hair, Miyaji Akira looked at the mirror hoping that she wouldn't have to look for the weird lucky items for the day. After all she really feel unlucky if she didn't have her lucky item with her, like last Sunday when she was planning to go out with Noriko-chan, but she was supposed to have this world map as her lucky item and since she didn't have one, one misfortune happened after another. Hopefully, this time she wouldn't be having such a misfortune day.
The familiar Oha Asa opening announced in the radio, and followed by the happy-go-lucky announcer's voice. "Good morning! This is Oha Asa and this is today's prediction! Starting off with Aquarius… You will have a lovely day but be careful of high places! A misfortune will bound to happen to you, so better stay away from them. Also, please don't forget today's lucky item a pink handkerchief and it might repel you from all the bad stuff."
Akira remembered that her class was on the second floor, which means that a high place –never questioned Akira's logic mind- and she dashed towards her dresser. She remembered that she put her pink handkerchief there. Well, the last time she remembered, she might have removed it and she misplaced it somewhere.
She rampaged her drawer; Akira felt the building panic inside her. "Pink hanky… pink hanky… Oh my god! Where did I put my pink hanky?" She flabbergasted as she tried to find her beautiful frilly pink handkerchief she had.
Why does she had put a lot of stuffs inside one drawer? Because of it, she had the hard to find one certain items and it was the most important item of the day, her lucky item! Just as she thought she will have to face the entire day with misfortune, she saw a glimpse of frilly pinkness and she grabbed it with triumph. "Hah! Misfortune I had demise you. Now be gone!" She said out loud as she looked at the handkerchief.
Sadly as she was busy with her hunt of it, she missed the entire Oha Asa report. "… And that's today's Oha Asa! Hope everyone have a lovely day!" and with that the channel gone into commercial and Akira groaned out loud. Apparently even a few minutes without her handkerchief, it already bring bad luck upon her. Then, she also realized something. "Oh God! I missed to listened Kiyo-nii and Yu-chan lucky items! They're going to have bad luck." She gasped in horror that her brothers wouldn't have their lucky items to repel the bad luck thanks to her clumsiness.
"Akira darling, you're going to miss school if you don't hurry!"
The sudden reminder from her mother from the other side of the door made her forgot about all the missing lucky items or the fact that her brothers might have to face mishaps for the entire day. Since, right now she has to focus on making sure that she wouldn't be late for school.
The lunch break bell rang, and as soon as the teacher got out from her class, Noriko-chan stood up. "Akira-chan, let's go! Before those monsters you called boys started to hoard down all the good breads!" She took Akira's hand the blonde girl could only followed her friend. Of course, with her forgetting her lunch box, she has to go to the cafeteria for her lunch anyway. She couldn't imagine how she could forget about her lunch, when she already has her lucky item in her possession. But… she will fight for that lunch if she had to head-bud people to get it.
"What are you planning to get?" Noriko-chan, her best friend in the school, asked.
"Bread… lots and lots of them. Oh and milk." Akira added distractedly when she remembered she didn't have her drink as well.
"I should have known. God they better still has the good stuffs." Noriko-chan rushed towards the cafeteria which only a few rooms' away from their classroom. Well, it might have been a few rooms but Akira wasn't sure. She can get lost in the school if wasn't for Noriko. Or her brothers. Or the teachers who's kind enough to tell her where was her classroom.
As she entered the cafeteria, all she saw was this giant people –as in people that much taller than her- trying to get through the front of the food stand.
"Ugh! I thought we are fast enough." Akira complained because she had to fight Noriko's big stride.
She looked at the swimming people and she put on her game face. Time to show what's little person made off! Akira thought as she started to swoop into the gap people made, and slowly made her way towards the food stand. This is one of things she good at and she's proud to say that not many people can do it. That included her beloved temperamental brothers. She breath out heavily when she finally reach the food stand and started getting the breads she wanted. Curry bread followed by yakisoba bread, melon bread and vanilla custard bread. She looked around for something sweet, and she frowned when the amount was less than she thought. Just when she's about to gave up, there's that one red bean bread and before anyone could get it, she snatched it away. She felt satisfied with her option and so she paid it all before getting out from the huge amount of people.
Unbeknown to her, she was only a second away at getting the last piece of the red bean bread from someone else.
"You got all you wanted?" Noriko asked.
"Yep! I need my milk. Where's the milk?" Akira asked looking around for her milk.
Noriko laughed and shook her head before pointing to this machine thingy at the hall. "You need to get it there remember?" She reminded Akira. Well, it can't be help that she always forgot about that machine existence, especially when it look so complicated to use. She's afraid that the machine will eat her money and wouldn't return it at all. "Oh right. It will not eat my money right? I can't loose anymore money." Akira asked with distress.
Noriko rolled her eyes and hand out her hand. "Give me your money. I'll do it for you." She said knowing that Akira would forever debate if the money will be eaten by the machine or not. And they don't have all the time from the world for it. Akira pouted a little bit as she gave her money to her best friend. She can't help it that she mulled over something like that. What if the machine thingy eats the money? Then she wouldn't have her money back and she can't do anything about it.
She waited rather fearfully that the machine will eat her money, but not long after that Noriko returned with her favorite brand of milk. "Oh God, that's so suspendful." She said dramatically.
"Only you, Akira-chan. Only you would think something like that and actually think it would definitely happen." Noriko snickered at her as they returned back to the classroom.
Akira ignored her friend's remarked because she's quite happy with her founding. After all, there's nothing made her happier than a good founding of food.
After school, even though she didn't join any club activity, Akira was forced to wait in the basketball's team gym. She didn't even understand how it works, but she had to wait until her brothers finished their practice. For someone who came from a huge basketball fan –including her parents- she's not only can't play it, she also didn't understand the simplest term in it. So it was not surprising to found her sitting at the second floor, her legs went through the railing, and she clings at the bar. She was bored, she was tired and she wanted to go home.
However, she can't go home alone. She had no sense of direction at all –that's a lie, she knew direction but she might have get distracted far too easily- so she was not allow to go home alone by her parents. She can't help herself when there's a pretty thing near or there's a hot guy that caught her eyes. It's natural for her.
She leaned her cheek on the rail's bar and she looked at the boys running around the court with a heavy sigh. Please let them finished soon, Akira thought gloomily. Why they have to practice for so long is beyond her. Not to mention they have the same thing going over and over again and they chase after this orange ball like it was the end of their live depending on it. "Ugh, this is so boring." Akira muttered.
There's nothing excited happened in here and she just didn't have the energy to look for excitement. To top it all, her brothers wouldn't let her leave the gym anyway. They didn't want the trouble of looking for her if she was not in the gym. Well, there's nothing excited in this boring school anyway. Not even a cute uniform. What she was using right now is the sailor moon uniform, but with lack of bright color. It was black and white, that's it. She felt like in those 70s movies her parents love so much. Why they can't have a bright color for the uniform? It would at least bring some life to this old school. Oh yeah, that's another thing why she didn't go around the school at this time of the day. Who knows there might be a ghost that decided to pop out even though it still daylight. Yeah, she would rather stay here and be bored rather than facing a person that she couldn't harm if it attacked her.
She swung her feet back and forth loosely. She was bored by looking at the boys running around so now she's looking out of the window, watching the color of the sunset. "Orange… Ugh. Why it has to have the same color as the ball?" She muttered. However, she had to admitted that the sunset look so much prettier than the ball her brothers chasing right now. She wished that the sunset color didn't have the same color as the ball though. "Blue would have been better." She mumbled. The fact was the sky is blue escaped her little mind.
She didn't realize that she has been swinging her feet far too fast, until she felt one of her shoes fell off. She gasped as it fell down slowly until it hit the green color head. "Uuuuh…." Akira face turned white and cursed her lucky items for not protecting her from high place.
"Shin-chan!" she heard a member of the basket ball team screamed that out while cracking so bad at the same time.
"Shut up, Takao."
The deep voiced came from the victim of her shoe and Akira froze. He might not be mad at me, he might be mad at the guy who laugh at him. Akira tried to calm herself down.
She looked as the man took her shoe and looked at her. She received a deadly glare from him. She wasn't sure which is scarier, his glare and Kiyo-nii's glare. "AKIRA!" Her brother yelled at her and pointed that she should go down from there. Akira just pouted because she really didn't have the energy to go down. "Idiot." She heard the green hair boy muttered and her eyes squinted a little bit.
"What did you just say?" Akira asked.
He looked up at her and before looking at her shoe –that was still in his possession- before looking at the hoop. She didn't know what he was about to do but she had a really bad feeling. Like really bad that she actually stood up and yelled, "Don't you dare!" Whatever he's about to do he was not getting away with it.
Akira stormed down awkwardly, thanks to the fact she only wear one shoe, and get as fast as she could towards the green hair boy. The first thing she noticed about him was how tall he was, but she was brimming with panic –she meant adrenalin- and stood in front him. "Give me that." Akira said.
"This shoe has brought misfortune to me, nanodayo." He said while flicking his glasses.
"Aw, come on, Shin-chan. She didn't mean it I'm sure." The black hair boy who had been laughing before said. He was still has the most satisfied smile on his face. As if it was like the goddess of good fortune had fell upon him when he saw the shoe fell and hit this rude green hair person head. Akira only gave him a fleeting look though, because she was brimming with anger now. Her eyes flashed at the weirdo in front her as she try to think for a come back.
"I don't care… misfortune, mishap, bad luck shit, I want my shoes back." Akira insisted when she finally figured out what she wanted to say while she pointed at her shoe. He was holding it as if it as the most fault thing he ever saw and she didn't like the look on his face. She can't read a damn thing from that! Akira yelled inwardly.
"Akira! Mind your god damn language!" Kiyo-nii reprimanded her.
"Like you have the right to talk to me." She glared at her brother. She pointed to the shoe again, hoping this time he would gave it to her. She waited for an intense minute before he decided to do something about it. However, it was not to give her shoe back rather, he threw it across the court, like it was the easiest thing ever. Thanks to that, she had to walk around to get it. That's just plain evil, Akira thought. "YOU! YOU! I hate you, idiot green hair seaweed head person thing!" Akira waved her fist angrily at him but he only flicked his glasses again turned around and mutters, "At least I'm not an idiot, nanodayo." And he dared to walk away from her. The person who had been calling him Shin-chan cackled again but this time shut his mouth up –though not stop laughing- when she gave him the trademark glare of Miyaji's family. He is not getting away with this! Akira thought as she was about to followed him. She had a lot of things to say to him –he needs to listen to all of it- but as she about to took a step to follow him suit, she got hit by an out of bound ball and fall to the floor.
She felt woozy and she could hear her brothers' called but she can't really make any of it. Please stop yelling at me! Akira thought as she winced. She forgot all about the green hair devil. She was supposed to be safe from all this misfortune but she's been having one after another. It's official, Oha Asa had lied to her this morning because she have a rotten luck right now.
