The windows were thrown open. The slight spring breeze wafted open through the room bringing the scent of roses and a thousand other flora with it. The light outside was fading slowly as the two lovers lay on the library's plushest couch. Narcissa relaxed her head against Lucius's chest, who was breathing heavily and drowsily. She raised her hand into the fading light, admiring her new ring's glimmer with a flourish of the hand. The gold of the band stood out beautifully from her milky white skin and the Dragon Tear stones smiled pompously from their seats besides the largest stone. She smiled softly back as she turned her hand back and forth.
"I wasn't sure if I was going to get you a ring," Lucius said sleepily as he caught sight of her admiration. "I figured it was unnecessary as it's merely a status symbol and between the two of them we have plenty of status."
"This is true, but I think it's lovely nonetheless," Narcissa said taking her hand down to cover his that rested on her waist.Lucius said nothing, but laced his fingers through hers. He kissed the top of her head lovingly and shifted her gently in his arms.
"I don't think of rings like this being mere status symbols, Luce," Narcissa said after a moment. She turned to look at him face to face. He parted his eyes and returned her gaze. "I think of them as a bond."
"A bond?" Lucius asked gently. Narcissa kissed his jaw lightly, "Yes, a bond. You see, you and I are like this ring."
She took the ring off her finger and held it delicatley between her index finger and her thumb, "You can't tell where I start and where you begin." There was a pause after she was finished before Lucius said, "I think you are drowsy, Dear."
"Don't you get it, Lucius? It's a bond. It's a continuous circle. We'll always be like this... together. There's no way to break it apart," She put the ring back on her finger and rested her head against him. "We'll always be just like this."
"I certainly hope so... I know so," He tightened his hold on her and closed his eyes once more as the first stars began to appear in the evening sky.
