Percy Weasley slept with all the lights on.

It was a little known fact, and quite a ridiculous one, really. After all, Percy was normally such a sane and rational individual.

But all the same, darkness was not even on the list of ways to lull him to sleep. Darkness, well, night, really, allowed his thoughts to roam free and was a time when his mind could go wild, when Percy Weasley could throw off the constraints of being who it was he'd shaped himself into and live the crazy, daring life of dreams.

He hated it.

The inhibition startled him, and his desires felt wrong and left him with a sticky, sickly guilt. He angered himself by giving in to them in the hush of blackness, and countered it with Helios's continuous rays. That way no one need ever know about Percy Weasley's ridiculous inclinations.

And they didn't.

As far as anyone could guess, the redhead's newfound fear of the dark was a result of the recent attack on the Ministry. So many had gotten hurt, maimed, tortured, and killed that it was only natural for him to be afraid.

The fact that Percy would never again walk without a limp only accentuated his situation.

The limp was a key player in things, to be honest. In fact, it explained why Percy refused to indulge himself with his dearling little fantasies any longer. He was a practical person and, as such, saw that with the advent of his limp came the closing of any possible relations with a bubble-gum pink haired girl.

It didn't matter that he wanted her.

She was an auror, and she was a strong and capable person. Nymphadora had her sights set on someone older, anyways, someone who could take care of her, run with her, be one with her as an equal. Percy would never be that now, and he knew that with his limp nothing could fix it.

She didn't want him.

So the redhead staved off his daring side with light's eternal presence. Or, at least, it's mostly eternal one. Because late every night, after work, and when she believed Percy to be fast asleep, Penny would sneak off the lights and slip back into bed beside him.

In the wake of the light's absence, Percy would lie with the one he'd convinced himself he loved. All the while, however, his mind would begin unwinding a new fantasy involving him, bubble-gum pink hair, and handcuffs.

And he'd never tell.
