Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal!

I really thought that these two could share a special bond together, as friend or not, so I was inspired to write this. Please review and enjoy! Hopefully it's not too bad ^_^"

A quiet wind blew through the streets of Heartland. It was the dead of night, and the wind had slightly ruffled the clothes of the two duelists, as if it was hesitant to pass through the intense moment. The young girl kneeled to the ground panted in defeat whilst staring at her cards in disappointment. She looked up to the young boy who stood a little bit away from her but still seemed to tower over her in a ridiculing manner. "S-Shark!" The girl yelled out, painfully attempting to stand, her joints screaming at her to quit. Nonetheless, she stood tall once again. The boy named Shark continued to look at her with an unreadable stare. "You're finished. Now leave me alone," He quietly said before turning around to take his leave. The night was only full of stars and did not well illuminate the street that they stood on. "Matte," She responded, a hot glare set on his back. "I said matte!" She said again with more intensity, and he stopped. "I won't let you go. You can't go back there. I have to defeat you first." She told him with a finger pointed. The boy casually glanced over his shoulder at her and chuckled. "You're going to have to catch me then, because you have already lost. You do not own me, so I do not have to listen to you. Now leave me alone, onna!" He finished with a yell, continuing his walk up the steep hill.

Her heated glare turned to the floor and she realized that he was right. But that didn't mean that she was going to give up. Her ribbon moved in rhythm with her steps which soon turned into a run. The boy stood up straight and stopped, his eyes widened in confusion. "I…caught you. Now duel me again, Shark. You will not go into the darkness." The girl with the greenish colored bun said, a tear sliding down her cheek as she fastened her hands around his torso. He raised his arms to remove her hands from around him but stopped when he glanced at her fingers. He noticed a ring donned on her finger that sparkled, the exact replica of the one on his finger that was given to her many years ago.

A flashback. Their friendship. Their failures. Their revivals. Their bond. This all came flashing through his mind as he realized he was mistaken all along. Where he wanted to go to, there was no soul who could help him, who could fulfill that hole in his chest with something more precious than dueling itself, who could make him feel truly accomplished. But, there was redemption left for him, he soon realized after that, and it ought to have started with his best friend. "Kotori…" He called out, resting his hands on top of her hands that were still around him. "Duel me again. Duel me seriously. And yes, never let me go." He told her. He felt her smile into his back. "You know it. Oh and just to make it clear, I only lost because you cheated." She told him after letting him go, sticking out her tongue at him. He looked at her incredulously.

"As Yuma says, Gattobingu da, ore! I draw first!" Kotori said, drawing the first card from her deck. "Bring it." Shark answered soon after, a smirk easily appearing on his face. Somewhere behind a corner, a blue colored alien watched them silently and intently. "Observation 20: A human's bonds to another can not be shattered easily... Although I do wonder if that qualifies for me and Yuma."
