So Mercury Gray suggested that I write a companion poem to You Left Me about Boromir's thoughts as he dies. Here it is.
Not Broken Yet
Failure -
that's what I am
Fallen -
perhaps I am that as well
but I will fall fighting
White tower, white walls
Will you forgive me
if I never return?
Could you still love me
if I let you down?
I will not fall without honor
I will fall fighting
All I know is this:
the voice is gone
that seductive hiss
the one that told me:
"Take it
and your people will live
and you will live in glory"
My life leaves me now
I can feel it
My father -
forgive me
My brother -
oh, my brother
I said I would never leave you
but I must
Do you remember
splashing in the Anduin in summertime
and do you remember
when I would dry your tears?
Please forgive me
but never forget.
You shall never forget Boromir
for he will fall fighting
I am sorry
Frodo
Aragorn
What can I say
but that I am sorry?
I see now, but before now
I was blind
Faramir -
What can I say
but that I love you?
I cannot protect you anymore.
Do not weep for me,
for I have fallen fighting
Failure, fallen,
bereft of pride -
these may be
but I am not broken yet.
