Dear Reader,

I know it's been a while since you've heard from me on this story. But, don't worry! I'm not abandoning Broken Promises completely!

I've grown up a lot since I first started Broken Promises. I've graduated from college. I've spent time out in the real world. I've matured. And, I think it's time that Charlie mature, too.

I've wanted Charlie to grow up for a long time now. It's gotten to the point that I feel I could no longer connect to her. And, while somethings will stay the same in this story, there are many things I want to change. There are things I want to add, while there are other things I want to get rid of. Most importantly, there are more adult-minded themes I want to explore. (*cough cough* Captain America *cough*)

I firmly believe that the best way to do all this is to just start over.

So, please, join me in the retelling of Charlie Gale's journey through the MCU in Marvel's The Avengers: Danger Zone. I have currently (as of 01/10/2018) posted the Prologue and Chapter 1, and I've already made a few major changes.

I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much, if not more, than the original. And, thank you for sticking with me.

Much love to you all,

GoAskAlice137

P.S. Once Danger Zone has reached the current ending point in the story, I will be deleting Broken Promises.

Marvel's The Avengers: Broken Promises

Prologue

Dr. Daniel Gale was the leading mind in Quantum Mechanics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was arguably one of the smartest men in the country, if not the world. And yet, sitting here in front of M.I.T.'s most famous alumni, Dr. Gale felt like a first year grad student trying to talk his way out of a failing grade. He was flustered and nervous as he looked across his desk at the calm and collected form of Tony Stark.

"I'm afraid that I'm not sure what you're asking me to do here?" He muttered, pushing his glasses up his nose before glancing from the billionaire to the dark man with the eye patch standing behind him.

Director Fury replied smoothly, "We simply want an outside opinion. That's all, Doctor."

"What he means to say is," Stark began cockily, his lips curled in cynicism, "His people are incompetent, and he needs our help."

Fury glared at Stark with his good eye momentarily, before returning his attention back to the physicist. He held out a folder stamped 'CLASSIFIED' in red.

Dr. Gale took it anxiously, his heart hammering in his chest as he looked at the glossy photographs that spilled out. He was not quite sure exactly what he was looking at, but his curiosity was instantly sparked as he began leafing through the pages of data hungrily, "Where did you find it?"

"Egypt." Fury answered directly, "We were hoping that you might be able to give us a clue to its origin, as we have already determined that it's non-terrestrial."

Dr. Gale nodded slowly, his lips pursed. The mention of Egypt suddenly set off alarm bells in his brain as he glanced up at the man suspiciously, "Does this have anything to do with what happened at the University of Cairo?"

Fury glanced at Stark, who raised his eyebrows in an 'I told you so' fashion. "You'll have S.H.E.I.L.D.'s full protection," He promised him, "As well as all our resources."

Dr. Gale closed the file and placed it gingerly on his desk. He stared at it for a moment, as if trying to convince himself to walk away. But, he couldn't bring himself to do it. His curiosity had already gotten the better of him, driving him ravenous for knowledge. He looked back at the two men with and anxious frown, "What about my daughter?"

Fury did not even bat an eye, the words coming out too smoothly, "She can be placed in protective custody. We can keep the both of you safe. You have my word."

Dr. Gale looked Fury up and down, chewing on the inside of his cheek. He did not care for him. He got the expressed impression that the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. would say just about anything to get him on board, even if he did not intend to carry through with his promises, so he shifted his attention to Stark.

Here before him was the Iron Man. He was a hero now. Though Dr. Gale could clearly remember Stark before his marvelous transformation. He had been a real hellion back then. But, the events in New York City, and Stark's rescue of the President a few months back, did speak in his favor.

He took a deep breath and leaned forward on his desk, locking his gaze on Avenger's. "I want your word, that Charlie will be safe."

Stark blinked, his self assured grin faltering for a split second as he glanced at Fury, who looked at him expectantly. He cleared his throat, glancing down at his feet briefly before answering, "Nothing bad will happen to your daughter. I promise."

Dr. Gale nodded, satisfied as he held out his hand, which Stark firmly took. "When do we get started?"

"Right now," Fury stated dramatically, turning and strutting out of the office with his coattails billowing in his wake. He immediately turned to the two agents standing sentinel on either side of the doorway. "Find Dr. Gale's daughter and bring her in." He ordered, continuing down the hall, "Send whoever is the closest."

I hope you enjoy :)
