_ stood surrounded by a group of wonderously giggly girls. Almost none of them had anything particularly special besides their dazzling looks. They were all amazingly pretty with pearly smiles, beautiful clothes and cute faces but the prettiest of all was definitely _. She seemed popular with almost everyone. Wherever she went people greeted her with smiles which she cheerfully returned. Her smiles could light up anyones day. She was also a very interesting girl. I watched her as she flicked her _ hair out of her face whilst chatting to her friends. I couldn't really hear what it was about. Probably typical female things.

She probably didn't even have a clue that anyone was watching her, let alone a shinigami. I'd been watching her for about a week now, judging her. My job was to ruthlessly collect a people's souls when their time came and _'s life was growing shorter and shorter each passing minute. I quickly checked the piece of paper I was holding.

(F/N) (S/N)

To die: _

I sighed and quickly folded it up again before shoving it back into the pocket of my black jacket. "It really is too bad," I thought "She's pretty hot." I frowned and jumped down from the branch I was sitting on.

I saw _ wave goodbye to her friends happily before starting to walk away. I began walking towards her. I knew i'd probably regret doing this later but when have I ever given things a second thought. I wasn't allowed to talk to her but something drew me towards her. William was going to have my head for this but here goes nothing.

"Yo! The pretty gal over there!" I said loudly giving her the most charming brightest smile I could muster.

_ turned to me suddenly, blinking her beautiful eyes in confusion. Her eyebrows knitted together.

"I've been watching you for quite a while now, and you seem quite popular," I said.

"Well, not really but I guess I do know alot of people." She said laughing brightly.

"Hey, I'll secretly let you in on something..." I babbled quickly.

"Sure! I'm not sure what kind of secret you could tell to a stranger but I promise not to tell either way." she replied grinning.

"Ah, but since it's a secret… just quickly lend your ears and then forget about it completely okay?" I told her seriously. I wanted her to be prepared but I didn't want to frighten her.

"Alright!" she replied looking quite eager to hear what I was about to tell her.

I leaned close to her breathing in her welcoming smell of sweet perfume.

"You have only 7 days left."

Her eyes widened in fear. She didn't question me at all. A stranger had just told her she was going to die soon and she completely and utterly believed me.

"B-but… I-I can't die. I'm too young!" She stuttered, tears rolling down her cheeks slowly. She raised her hands to her face rubbing her eyes quickly, failing to completely wipe the the tears that were rapidly tumbling on and on.

"That's not for me or you to decide. I'm sorry" I muttered, regretting ever speaking to her in the first place.

"But if you know this… You must have some way to that I don't die!? Please," She begged me quickly taking a hold of my gloved hands in a vice like grip. Desperation. "I can't die. Can't you save me? S-save me"

I carefully took my hands out of her grasp before running a finger down her delicate tear stricken face.

"I'm sorry. No matter how hard you fight, you can't change your fate anymore."

"P-please," she sobbed "Please help me. P-please save me."

"No matter how much you ask me, I cannot change what's on my list" I replied, my voice beginning to crack.

"I'll just wait quietly, and then judge your soul."

She sat silently on the dark wooden bench overlooking the lake. She wasn't crying anymore. Her face was numb and emotionless. A broken and almost lifeless porcelain doll. Abandoned with no hope. I could see the fear that still lingered in her now lifeless eyes. After all, with every minute her time grew shorter.

I walked up to her quietly and kneeled down in front of her taking my hands into her cold ones.

"From the way you look right now... are you in a state of shock? There must be a lot of unfinished business that you still want to finish, right?" I asked her gently.

She nodded, wiping her eye idly.

"Please use your limited time wisely" I told her as I stood up and walked away.

"Now what's with that long face, Ronny~?" drawled Grell poking me in the back.

"There's this girl..." I told him quietly.

"There's always a girl isn't there," Grell giggled "what's so special about this one that you're in such a slump, hmmm~?"

It wasn't unusual for me to have a girlfriend every week but somehow, I felt attached to _. I worried for her unlike I ever had for anyone. I didn't think I could look at her tear streaked face again without feeling that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach knowing that I'd have to be the one to end it all.

"She's...different, Grell. I think I might actually like her and...she has been begging me not to take her life" I replied.

Grell laughed "Ah come on Ronald! You will get over her. She is just a silly human girl after all. They all beg. It just makes it all that much more fun to hear their screams don't you think?~"

"I guess you're right..." I replied quietly. Afterall, she is just a human. I'd probably find someone better than her… Of my own kind.

"I reap the worthless souls as if they are newly-sprung weeds."

"That's the spirit," Grell said as he skipped off happily, chainsaw at hand.

"No matter how hard you fight, you can't change your fate anymore."

She looked calm. That was the first thing I noticed when I saw her. Her eyes no longer looked like they were going to burst from the flood of tears.

"You're going to take my soul now, right?" she asked me indifferently.

"Yes. Your time is now up," I replied simply.

"Can I just do one last thing?" she asked walking towards me. I nodded slightly, a little confused.

She leaned in and pressed her lips lightly to mine. I kissed her back and put my arms around her, holding her tightly. Never wanting to let her go. She was so soft and warm. Full of life. I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I sniffed and tried to compose myself. After a while i forced myself to pull away from her and smile at her encouragingly.

"It seems like you've given up. That's okay. Feel at ease." I told her softly, walking behind her and placing my hands onto her shoulders lightly.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Her last. The ends of her mouth tugged up into a smile. Graceful. The last words she would hear were mine.

"I will execute my duty magnificently, without giving the demons a chance to steal from me."
