Final Judgment

I don't own any of these characters, nor do I seek to make any money off of them in any way. I don't like these new episodes nearly as much as the first four seasons, but this twist is a good way to write her off in my opinion. Please review if you enjoy it, or if you don't that's fine too.

CJ watched the TV in her office. There was a news reel repeating for the third time that night. She had a hard prepared look in her eyes, but they weren't really focused on the TV. She was thinking of her future. She had just leaked the existence of a military spaceship to the press. She knew it would be found out, secrets never stayed secret in Washington for long. She remembered a time she had thought of resigning because she wasn't trusted by the chief of staff. How right Leo had been, but it wasn't India and Pakistan she couldn't be trusted with, it was humanitarian rights. She would be so pissed at herself if she wasn't so stubborn. She was strong, you made a choice and you stuck with it until the bitter end.

She had always known her moral indignation would be her undoing. There had been so many times that she had come this close to stepping over the line. The first time all those years ago with the Slidell's, Danny had been right about hating herself later. She was a loose cannon and she'd known it for years. Hell, everyone in the West Wing knew it, that time she and Nancy had screamed it out in the hall out women's rights. She laughed bitterly even Mrs. Bartlett had had more restraint and that was in the face of Zoey's kidnapping. I'm not fit to be the press secretary and I'm certainly not fit to be the White House Chief of Staff, but I think that it's a little bit Leo's fault for recommending me for the job.

With the certainty that it would come out soon, she began thinking about her options. She would undoubtedly be fired; the real problem was legal action. Would she be fined, go to prison, what should she do to prepare. The worst part was she couldn't seek legal counsel without incriminating herself and she was still hanging onto the dream that perhaps the leak would never be found. She sighed it was a pipe dream there weren't many people to choose from and she hadn't been real discreet about how she felt. Well in for a penny in for a buck, if she was getting fired, she was going to go out in a brilliant bang.

She reached for the phone and dialed a number she knew by heart, the number on the back of a card in her desk. It was a simple card from a bouquet of roses. The number was almost illegible the card had been so worn. She waited for the other end to pick up while flipping the card over in her hand. The words, I love you, were still visible though badly faded. Finally there was an answer, "Hello?" CJ bit her lip suddenly nervous, then with a breath asked, "Danny, where are you right now?" There was no use in waiting any longer anyway.
