IMMORTAL GORE

Chapter 1: Prologue : Raised by Darkness

"Mikan, my beautiful daughter" the man was lying on the bed with his wheezy voice whispering "I was such a bad father by leaving you in this cruel world alone. But I'm still hoping that..." pausing his sentence as he reached out his skinny hand to the small figure in front "No matter what

happens, please don't use your alice in front of anyone. My dear Mikan, your mother and I will always pray for your happiness . I love you Mikan..."

The displeasing sound from the wild cats along with the dripping droplets that irritated the girl's feet finally woke her up. The sun directly shone through the girl's soot-smeared skin as she made a grunting sound. She sat up, putting on a worn out jacket that was too big for her, accompanied by a grey, tattered scarf and a begrimed hat. The nostalgic thoughts of that vivid dream echoed in her head as she rolled herself on the other side of the bed. Fixing her half asleep gaze on the right side, she leaned over to call the boy gently "Its morning Yoichi, wake up". The boy peeked his sky-blue eyes and yawned "Good morning Mikan-nee chan"

"You useless piece of shit!" The huge figure slamming his thick wood stick non stop "Why don't you die along with that bitch?! You and your damn cursing power! You destroyed everything!" Though being beaten up cruelly, yet he did not shed a single tear nor a few hours later and a few more violent beating, the drunk man had finally fallen asleep with a bottle of liquor next to. The boy quietly snuck away from this house, his two legs were bleeding terribly, his ribs felt as if it was pounded by million of nails. Finally, he manage running to a dirty slumdog area.

With a painful body and an empty stomach, he collapsed on the street.

There, she found him.

A lost soul had found another lost soul.

Later then, she had dragged him home, leaning him on the broken door. She took out a piece of bread and shoved to his mouth. "Eat" she said.

Had not recovered from the beating, he slowly gained his consciousness and opened his lips instinctively. Swallowing the dried piece roughly, the little girl put in another piece of bread in his mouth until her dinner was over.

The sound of the birds chirping woke up the boy. Feeling a ragged blanket on his body, he looked over a saw a shaking curled up figure lying there.

The introduction between two children was simple, without saying much words, except for knowing each others names and ages. Still, Mikan's mercy decided to keep Yoichi under her care since he did not fully recover from the beating.

A few days later, the old house was despoiled by the government after her father's death. With nowhere to go, ever since that day, they became more miserable yet closer than ever. In order to get over the freezing nights, empty stomachs, they would curl up inside the thin blanket telling stories, laughing, sobbing to forget the growling stomachs.

Everyday, Mikan would use her alice to steal things in order to survive despite her father's warning, yet she never let Yoichi do the risky task.

Time passed by, Mikan had reached the age of 18, she decided to look for a job. Had been wandering around the city for days to ask if anyone wants her to help out any labor task, yet no one would want to take in a weak foul girl like her.

Sighing, she turned to Yoichi and gave him a gentle smile, rubbing away the soot on his face "I'm going to take some leftovers from the bakery for us. I will be back soon" . He stayed silent, grabbing the tail of Mikan's jacket. "No, I'm going with you today." Sensing something bad was going to happen Yoichi narrowing his icy blue pupils." I am not going to leave you alone. Not today."

The auburn haired girl sighed. What he had said made her feel more responsible "All right then...".

She, who had used her alice to do all the stealing, yet refused Yo-chan doing any wrong thing that herself had been and gone through. "Promise me do not ever use your alice to hurt anyone okay?" she muffled.

It was already near dawn and they hadn't had anything in their growling stomachs. All they got was the pathetic crumbs littered from the bakery, but that amount was impossible to sate the growling in their abysmal stomachs.

All of sudden, a butcher stepped out from the nearby meat shop who held a plate of large meat in his grizzly hands as he passed by them. Instinctively, Mikan teleported behind the man and attempted to steal the dish from the man's grasp. All would have been well if it hadn't been for her streak bad luck. She had missed.

The man immediately turned and grabbed her hand before she could make her frantic escape. Terrifying feeling twirled in her stomach; "Damn it, I would hurt him and cause a ruckus if I used my alice" Mikan thought.

And, she was caught.

"Bitch! How dare you stealing my meat! You are coming with me to the police!" The butcher dragged the petite figure along the street as witnesses viewing her with shameful disgust

" shameful thief..." , "lowly dog..", " dirty wench .." was all she heard.
