One for One

Robin's life is falling apart after Raven died. The only person who can help him through this is his small newborn child.

Robin cradled the small child in his arms. His child. He still had trouble understanding that at seventeen he was a father.

He stands in a small graveyard five miles away from Jump City.

The small baby in his arms whimpers as a cold burst of winter wind cut into her soft skin. Robin gently tucks her under his cloth windbreaker and holds her close to his body to keep her warm.

He runs a shaky hand through his pitch black hair. As he cradles the young child in one strong arm he pulls a single red rose out of his pocket. The rose slowly falls onto the fresh dirt before the gravestone. The blood red rose with a long green stem lies right under the sliver engraved words:

Raven Roth 1989-2006

There are no kind words under the lone name because Robin could think of none that would describe his love.

He gently closed his dark blue eyes as a single tear rolls down his cheek. The baby girl in his arms seemed to understand her dad's sad mood because she looked up at him with large violet eyes that held a sweet innocence only existing in a child so young.

Robin looked down at their child and softly spoke to the wind, "She looks like you. Your soft pale skin, your angelic face, and your large violet eyes…" Robin paused and swallowed as more tears softly fell down his jaw. "I…I named her Angel like you wanted…you never got to see her."

Robin said the last bit with a soft sob. He tried to stop the memory but it played in his mind:

The pure joy shone bright on her tired face as the child finally cried after some struggle. The loud beeps emitting from machines all around the small room. All of the nurses and a few doctor swarmed around her bed as Robin was pushed to the sidelines feeling useless. They barked orders from one to the other on ideas to stop the inevitable. The sorrow filled looks as they gently covered her prefect face with the white blanket…

Robin sat down in front of the fresh dirt and cried. He had not cried this much since his parents were killed. Angel cooed softly trying to calm her father as she reached to touch his pale face.

The funeral was two days ago and most of the city had stopped by to say thanks and goodbye and all of the Titans were there minus Robin.

Robin didn't think he could stand seeing the dark oak coffin he bought be lowered into the soft soil. He couldn't stand to hear the kind words that could never be enough.

He slowly stood up but the hot tears still fell fast from his eyes. He blew a single kiss into the crisp night and then kissed his daughter gently on her forehead.

"I love you." he said to both of his girls at once.

Angel smiled up at her strong father and Robin couldn't help but smile back.

He lost one of his girls to gain another.

'Not everything is bad.' he thought to himself as he carried Angel out of the graveyard.

Okay, so I've been told I had a mistake on Angle's name and had Amanda. This story was not originally written for fanfiction and had different names...I guess I missed one in the transfer. Sorry for the confusion and thanks to the reviewers that let me know.

Let me know what you think, review.
