We are the Fallen

There were seven of us once.

We were magnificent.

Beautiful.

We were worshiped as Gods.

We were arrogant.

We began to believe that there was no power greater than our own and thus were disabused of this notion. We taught the humans, gave to them our strength, as our power was supreme there was no other outcome than victory. We were wrong and were cast down for our mistake.

Dumat, the Dragon of Silence and the greatest of us, was the first to fall victim to the corruption that had taken hold of our servants. "So that their body may reflect the soul that dwells within." He, the Almighty, said, for they were indeed hideous. So Dumat was awakened, twisted, screaming his rage at the world. For two hundred years he rampaged before the descendants of those untouched by the Taint mastered it, took of its strength, and finally killed what remained of Dumat, if anything remained.

Then there was peace. Years past and the Tainted were not idle. Digging. Spreading. Hunting for us, until at last, Zazikel was found. She was reborn and surged forth with her army of abominations. She too was pushed back after hundreds of thousands had been lost, the land marred by their passing.

So the Cycle began again.

Toth, the Dragon of Fire.

Andoral, the Dragon of Unity.

Urthemiel, the Dragon of Beauty.

Each of them screaming at the world, surrounded by the thousands of reminders of our mistakes, our sins. Each driven mad by knowledge that nothing awaited them at the end of their pain but all-encompassing oblivion. Perhaps that is a blessing.

With the death of Urthemiel it is only a matter of time before Razikale is found and rises to the mantle of Archdemon. Then it shall be my turn. We are the last of dying breed, myself and Razikale. Perhaps when we are gone from this world we shall find some redemption once the memories of the atrocities committed by the Tainted have faded, so that we may remembered as we were, strong and beautiful, not the monsters we became.

We are the Fallen, may we find peace in death.
